HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002_03_12 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION Meeting Minutes March 12, 2002 The regular meeting of the Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission was held on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 in Conference Room "A" of the Mamaroneck Town Center, 740 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck at 7:30 P.M. PRESENT: Richard Conlan, Chairman Patricia Castellani James Druker Rita Plansky Terry Rainaldi ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Valerie Moore O'Keeffe, Town Supervisor Mary Ellen Faulkner, Secretary EXCUSED: Rosemary Dufficy William Paonessa Ernie Odierna, Town Board Liaison CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Chairman Conlan. APPROVAL OF MINUTES On a motion by Commissioner Druker, seconded by Commissioner Castellani, the minutes of February 5, 2002 were accepted as corrected. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE 1. Ms. Fisher updated the Commission on the Friends in Need (F.I.N.D.) Charity Hockey Challenge program to be held at Hommocks Park Ice Rink on Saturday, April 6`h. The Town has waived the ice rental fee for the evening, but F.I.N.D. will pay any direct costs involved i.e. staffing, clean-up, etc. A two million dollar certificate of insurance, co- insuring the Town of Mamaroneck, will be provided. 2. Ms. Fisher updated the Commission on the refrigeration problem at Hommocks Park Ice Rink on Sunday, March 3rd. The problem was quickly solved, but due to the high outside temperatures the public session was lost. However the PBA Party, a Mamaroneck Youth Hockey Association ice rental and a late night rental were salvaged. Potential lost general admission revenue was approximately $1,700.00. Commissioner Druker suggested that the Department investigate installing safeguards that would alert the staff to a problem possibly preventing situations like this before they happen. Ms. Fisher will follow-up. 3. The Mamaroneck Board of Education has informed the Town that Hommocks Pool is on schedule for an April 1" reopening. 4. Ms. Fisher has sent a reminder letter to Seth Weitzman, Hommocks School Principal to remind him of the maintenance of the Carpino-Steffens Fields scheduled to begin on March 18`h. She will follow-up with a phone call to be sure he has received the letter. 5. The Department is currently evaluating different options for placing an expiration date on pool passes. 6. Ms. Fisher informed the Commission that outlines for the games under the bridges at Memorial Park are done and will be painted permanently when the weather is warmer. Ken Paterno and the Town Highway Department will do this work. 7. The Town Highway Department will be re-seeding the lawn at Memorial Park starting March 25`h. It is anticipated the lawn will be closed until May 1" Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes - March, 2002 Page 2 SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED 8. Ms. Fisher updated the Commission on the planned upgrading of the play equipment at the Monroe facility. 9. Ms. Fisher reported on proposed improvements the Town will be doing at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink. The proposed improvements include: lengthening the player bench areas, moving the penalty boxes and elevating the time keeper/judges box above the penalty boxes. The Mamaroneck Youth Hockey Association will pay for all construction and materials. The Town will pay the cost of the engineering drawings. VILLAGE OF LARCHMONT & MAMARONECK REQUESTS TO USE HOMMOCKS POOL On a motion by Commissioner Plansky, seconded by Commission Druker, the Commission unanimously approved a request by the Village of Larchmont for use of the Hommocks Pool by the Flint Park Day Camp. On a motion by Commissioner Castellani, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the Commission unanimously approved a request by the Village of Mamaroneck for use of the Hommocks Pool by the Village Day Camp. SUPERVISOR VALERIE MOORE O'KEEFFE Supervisor O'Keeffe thanked the Commission for all their hard work on behalf of the residents of the Town. Mrs. O'Keeffe feels the Recreation Commission is the most efficient and effective Commissions in the Town. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Commissioner Druker, seconded by Commissioner Plansky the meeting adjourned at 8:20 P.M.
