ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES:
On a motion by Commissioner Morello, seconded by Commissioner Plansky, the
Meeting Minutes of December 9, 2008 were unanimously approved as corrected.
SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE:
Ms. Fisher reported the following:
1. The spring/summer brochure is at the printer and is expected to be in the mail
the first week of March. Registration is scheduled to begin on Monday, March
30th which is two weeks earlier than in the past.
2. Session IV of Skating School began on February 10th
3. Swim Lessons, Lifeguard Training and Dolphins have all begun with good
enrollment numbers.
4. Attendance during public sessions at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink continues to
be good.
5. The feedback received so far on our Youth Hockey House League Program has
been positive. At the conclusion of the season the program will be evaluated and
recommendations made for the 2009-2010 season.
6. Companies who may be interested in submitting proposals for a new Ice Rink
Feasibility Study, are currently being solicited.
The agreement with RSP Architect has been terminated due to the poor quality
of their report. The only money lost was for travel reimbursements for their initial
visit.
Dick Ward of Ward Associates (who has done work for the Town in the past) has
been contacted and will be coming in late February for a consultation.
7. A new ice resurfacing machine (Zamboni) was the only capital project approved
for 2009. Bid specifications are being completed for a new machine. Delivery
will most likely not be until 2010.
Projects not approved include: new grates for the outdoor pools; renovations to
the Central School Tennis Courts and a new camp tent. We will continue to
make do with what we have.
8. During the January 24th Mamaroneck High School hockey game against Pelham,
a puck went over the dasher-board glass and into the stands injuring a nine year
old boy who suffered a fracture in his face bone. Fortunately, the only medical
treatment required after examination were ice, rest and an antibiotic.

SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED:
Even though this is not a common occurrence, we are in the process of
purchasing netting to run the length of the rink in front of the stands, similar to the
netting at the ends.
Delivery on the netting will take approximately 3 weeks and we will install it
immediately. The estimated cost is $900 and the school district has offered to
pay 50%.
In the meantime, as a precaution, we are making announcements prior to games
regarding fan safety.
9. The 2007-2008 pool invoice has been received. Since the Town has requested
details regarding certain charges, this bill and the previous year's have not been
paid. George McNally has been contacted and referred inquires to Merrill
Rubenstein. We are awaiting Ms. Rubenstein's reply.
In an attempt to learn about the average operating cost of an indoor pool, Town
Administrator, Stephen Altieri, Superintendent of Recreation, Jill Fisher and
Aquatic Director, Jennifer Williams will be visiting similar pools.
10. Bids are currently being solicited for grass cutting services for the fields and pool
lawn. The deadline for submission is February 20th
11. A new federal law requires that all commercial pools replace and install anti-
entrapment drains for safety.
Our current pool contractor has been contacted and will assist in filing the
necessary paperwork with the Board of Health. There should be no delay in the
summer opening of the outdoor pools.
The estimated cost for this work is $3,000. The School District is planning this
work on their grates during the spring cleaning.
12. All user groups have been advised that there may be a delay in the opening of
the Carpino-Steffens Fields due to extra maintenance that may be needed this
year.
