HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009_12_08 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES December 8, 2009 PRESENT: James Druker, Chairman Robert Morello William Paonessa Rita Plansky Terry Rainaldi ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Ernie Odierna, Town Board Liaison Mary Ellen Faulkner, Commission Secretary EXCUSED: Amy Siskind CALL TO ORDER: The meeting, held in the Community Room of the Hommocks Park Ice Rink, was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Chairman Druker. ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES: On a motion by Commissioner Paonessa, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the Meeting Minutes of November 10, 2009 were unanimously approved as submitted. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE: Ms. Fisher reported the following: 1. Currently there are 188 children registered in our Youth Hockey House League Program. Resident Rye Neck Non Resident Group A 42 1 2 Group B 30 3 4 Group C 48 2 6 Group D 44 2 4 2. Session II of Skating School concludes on December 18th with an enrollment of 291. Last year, Session II had 377 registered. Session III begins on January 5th 3. Many Fall programs will come to an end the second week of December. Winter sessions will begin in January. 4. To date, a total of 7 non-resident pool permits have been sold. 5. Breakfast with Santa is scheduled for Sunday, December 20th from 8:45 to 10:45 A.M. 6. Men's Basketball is averaging 24 participants each night. 7. General admissions to the Hommocks Park Ice Rink totaled $12,025 over the Thanksgiving weekend. Last year's total was $13,900. 8. The Hommocks Park Ice Rink will once again be hosting the Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department Toy Drive on Sunday, December 13th 9. The second session of Zumba began on November 7th and currently there are 59 participants registered. 10. The Carpino-Steffens Fields were aerated, top-dressed, seeded and fertilized on November 23rd. The fields are now closed for the season. The Mamaroneck Youth Hockey Association has been billed for $4,200 for their 28 participating non residents. 12. Over the past weekend the Hommocks Park Ice Rink lost one of the ice compressors. A replacement has been ordered that will cost approximately $15,000. There are problems with another compressor that will also need to be addressed. REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF 2010 SPRING/SUMMER PERMIT AND PROGRAM FEES: The Commission held a lengthy discussion regarding the reduction of the Pre School subsidies that the Town Board implemented. Chairman Druker requested that Ms. Fisher adjust all youth fees, so that increases are spread over all youth programs. These additional fees will need to make up the lost revenue from raising the camp subsidy. The Spring/Summer Permit and Programs Fees were tabled until the January Commission meeting. 2010 RECREATION COMMISSIOM MEETING DATES: Ms. Fisher inquired of the Commission if there would be any objection to changing the Commission meeting night from Tuesday to Monday. The Town is considering closing the building on Tuesday nights. No one objected. Ms. Fisher will inform the Commission once a decision is made. HOMMOCKS PARK ICE RINK FEASIBILITY STUDY: A brief discussion was held regarding the draft of the Hommocks Park Ice Rink Feasibility Study. Ms. Fisher will provide further information as it becomes available. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Commissioner Paonessa, seconded by Commissioner Morello, the meeting adjourned at 8:40 P.M., after which the Commissioners had a brief tour of the facility.
