HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010_11_18 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES November 18, 2010 PRESENT: James Druker, Chairman Robert Morello Terry Rainaldi ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Ernie Odierna, Town Board Liaison Mary Stanton, Assistant to the Town Administrator Mary Ellen Faulkner, Commission Secretary EXCUSED: William Paonessa Rita Plansky Amy Siskind CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Chairman Druker. ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES: On a motion by Commissioner Rainaldi, seconded by Commissioner Morello, the Meeting Minutes of September 14, 2010 were unanimously approved as submitted. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE: Ms. Fisher reported the following: 1. Session 1 of Skating School concluded on November 7th with a total of 213 skaters registered. Registration for Session 2 is ongoing with 306 participants registered to date. 2. The Youth Hockey House League Program began on November 6th. Currently there are 172 participants registered. 3. The High School/Adult Volleyball Program began on November 14th 4. Hommocks Park Ice Rink attendance is doing well so far this year. 5. The Rink hosted a Halloween Party on Friday, October 29th during the Friday evening public session. The session was extended by one hour, a D.J. played live music and glow necklaces were given away. The evening was well attended. 6. Session 1 of Swim Lessons are underway with the following enrollments: 28 - Youth 35 - Tot 10 - Bubble Babies 8 - Seahorse 81 7. All adult fitness programs are underway. The fall session of Zumba had 50, which is 11 less than last year. Session 2 began on November 2nd with 31 enrolled to date. 8. Scuba is underway with 13 divers enrolled. 9. The Dolphin Pre Team program is fully enrolled with 45 swimmers. Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes November 18, 2010 - Page 2 SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED: 10.The Carpino-Steffens Fields are scheduled to be dormant seeded, aerated and fertilized by LandTek on November 24th. The fields will then be closed for the winter. 11.The Memorial Park Tennis Courts closed for the season on November 1st. The windscreens have been taken down and the park building winterized. 12.The proposed 2011 Recreation Department Budget was presented to the Town Board on Friday, October 29th. Budget work sessions are ongoing and the final adoption is not until December. There is nothing new to report on the budget, except that the cost of printing the brochure might be put back in. This will increase the printing line by $8,000. 13.Dorothy, Mary Ellen and Kenny will be taking unused vacation between now and the end of the year. It looks like their final day will be in mid December. 14.Work has begun on the Spring/Summer Brochure and fees will be presented for approval at the December meeting. 15.Ms. Fisher reviewed with the Commission the letter received in June from resident Dawn Ivy Schindelman requesting that the Commission consider issuing a Hommocks Pool Permit category for single parent families with one child. The Commission said that they would consider her request when adopting 2011-2012 fees. Ms. Fisher will propose options for the Commission to consider at the December meeting. LETTER OF REQUEST FROM BETH BOYLE: Mrs. Beth Boyle has requested that the late fee for her daughter's participation in the Youth Hockey House League be refunded. She registered her the first morning that the fee was charged and was unaware that a late fee had been instituted this year. On a motion by Commissioner Morello, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the Commission unanimously approved a credit of the $60.00 late fee for Mrs. Boyle. LETTER OF REQUEST FROM DON KERR: Mr. Don Kerr has written the Commission on behalf of the Mamaroneck Youth Hockey Association requesting that they waive the fee for one hour of the ice time the Association has rented for the annual "Turkey Shoot-Out Thanksgiving Tournament" at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink. On a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the Commission unanimously decided to waive the fee for one hour of the ice rental time that the Mamaroneck Youth Hockey Association has reserved for their tournament. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Commissioner Rainaldi, seconded by Commissioner Morello, the meeting adjourned at 8:00 P.M. into an Executive Session to discuss personnel matters with Ms. Stanton.
