HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010_01_12 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES January 12, 2010 PRESENT: James Druker, Chairman Robert Morello William Paonessa Terry Rainaldi Amy Siskind ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Ernie Odierna, Town Board Liaison Mary Ellen Faulkner, Commission Secretary EXCUSED: Rita Plansky CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:35 P.M. by Chairman Druker ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES: On a motion by Commissioner Rainaldi, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa, the Meeting Minutes of December 8, 2009 were unanimously approved as submitted. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE: Ms. Fisher reported the following: 1. Session III of Skating School began on January 5th and currently there are 368 participants enrolled. Last year at this time there were 410 registered. Out of this 368, 11 individuals used a coupon when registering. 2. Admissions to the Hommocks Park Ice Rink were down by 222 during the month of December, 2009 compared with December, 2008. 3. The Badger Swim Team was billed and a check has been received in the amount of$3,750 for their fall use of the Hommocks Pool. 4. Mamaroneck Youth Hockey Association has paid $4,200 for non-resident participation. 5. The Hommocks Park Ice Rink was busy over the long New Year's weekend. General admissions totaled $14,974. 6. The 2010 Town budget was approved with the latest version of changes as requested by the Recreation Commission. 7. 1,419 coupons were used during the months of October, November and December for admissions to the Hommocks Park Ice Rink. 8. Work is on-going regarding the planting along the side of the ice rink. Rink Manager, Rob Lunde has been instructed to work with Larchmont Nurseries in providing them a dasher board ad free of charge. 9. 2 dasher board ads have been renewed within the past 2 weeks. The rink staff will be approaching additional businesses to purchase and/or renew. 10. Rob Lunde received clearance to return to work full time on January 3rd 11. The purchase and installment of the new compressor cost $20,771. Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes January 12, 2010 - Page 2 SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED: 12. Discussions are still on-going with Mamaroneck School officials regarding the past due invoices. The bill for the 2008-09 season has recently been received. After some discussion with Paul Fried, Superintendent of Schools, the Town has agreed to pay the 2006-2007 invoice, which was pro-rated to $204,367 due to the spring closure. However, until negotiations can reflect more accurate billing based on actual usage, the Town will be withholding future payments. Mr. Fried has agreed to meet this month to resolve these issues. 13. In the past, the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Center for Continuing Education has held programs in the Community Room free of charge. Beginning this spring, a small rental fee of$35 per hour will be charged. Request A Aqua Visions Scuba, Ltd. has requested a section of the Hommocks Pool on occasional Sundays from12:15 to 2:30 P.M. to conduct an adult scuba course. This rental would coincide with our Padi Seal Scuba time and space currently run by Aqua Visions. On a motion by Commissioner Paonessa, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the Commission unanimously approved the request on a trial basis at a cost of$50 per hour. Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes January 12, 2010 - Page 7 REQUESTS TO USE HOMMOCKS POOL CONTINUED: Request B Badger Swim Club has requested the use of one lane of the Hommocks Pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. until mid March. This time and space will be used for video taping their swimmers. This is in addition to the times already approved which are Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. On a motion by Commissioner Morello, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa, the Commission unanimously approved this request with a fee of$75 per hour. 2010 COMMISSION MEETING DATES: On a motion by Commissioner Rainaldi, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa, the Commission unanimously approved the following dates for Commission meetings: January 12th February 9tn March 9th April 13th May 11th June 8th July 13th *August 10th September 14th October 12th November 9th ** December 14th All meetings are held in the Mamaroneck Town Center (except where noted) beginning at 7:30 P.M. *TBD **at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Commissioner Rainaldi, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa, the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 P.M.
