HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002_05_14 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION Meeting Minutes May 14, 2002 The regular meeting of the Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission was held on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 in Conference Room "A" of the Mamaroneck Town Center, 740 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, New York at 7:30 P.M. PRESENT: Richard Conlan, Chairman Patricia Castellani James Druker William Paonessa Rita Plansky Terry Rainaldi ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Ernie Odierna, Town Board Liaison Mary Ellen Faulkner, Secretary EXCUSED: Rosemary Dufficy CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:35 P.M. by Chairman Conlan. APPROVAL OF MINUTES On a motion by Commissioner Castellani, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the minutes of April 9, 2002 were unanimously approved as submitted. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE 1. Ms. Fisher informed the Commission that the Hommocks Pool did not open as scheduled May 1st. The Mamaroneck School District has notified the Town that the pool cannot reopen until the proper certificates to operate have been received from the Westchester County Board of Health. Councilman Odierna will update the Town Board at their meeting on Wednesday, May 15, 2002. 2. Ms. Fisher reported that she would like to deposit half of the $9,250 raised from the Annual Ice Breaker Tournament into the Ice Rental Revenue account and the other half into the Hommocks Park Ice Rink Trust Fund. Commissioner Druker asked what the balance is in the Trust Fund Account. Ms. Fisher informed the Commission, as of this afternoon the balance is approximately $92,000. Chairman Conlan requested Ms. Fisher to find out how the Rink Trust Fund was established and what the money may be used for. She will report back to the Commission at the June meeting. 3. Ms. Fisher told the Commission that solicitation of sponsors for the Summer Concerts at Memorial Park have been halted. Supervisor O'Keeffe requested that only banks and not private business be approached. Chairman Conlan will contact Mrs. O'Keeffe for clarification. 4. Commissioner Druker asked Ms. Fisher if she knew how much money the pool has lost by not reopening on time. Ms. Fisher replied that to date the Spring Warm-Up Clinic is the only program that has been cancelled. Early Morning Swim and Life Guard Training are awaiting the reopening of the pool. Pool passes will not be sold until the pool officially reopens. Commissioner Druker asked that a running total be kept. 5. Ms. Fisher then presented a brief outline of the new Introduction to Golf program being offered by the Recreation Department this season. She requested that the Commission approve the contractual agreement with Saxon Woods Golf Course. On a motion by Commissioner Druker, seconded by Commissioner Plansky (with Commissioner Paonessa abstaining) the Commission approved the agreement that will give 80% of the program profits to Saxon Woods and 20% to the Town. 6. The old Monroe Playground equipment has been removed by the Highway Department. The new apparatus has been ordered and should be installed by the start of camp on July 1 st 7. Memorial Park grass is coming in nicely. Fields will remain closed for another 2 to 3 weeks. 9. The work under the bridges at Memorial Park has been completed. Residents are enjoying the shuffleboard courts and other improvements. Councilman Odierna would like to have a bench installed by the shuffleboard courts. Ms. Fisher will contact the Highway Department to see if this is possible. REQUESTS TO USE HOMMOCKS POOL 1. Ms. Fisher presented a request from Central School P.T.A. for use of the Carpino- Steffens Fields as well as Hommocks Pool for their 5th Grade Graduation Party. On a motion by Commission Paonessa, seconded by Commissioner Castellani, this motion was passed unanimously. 2. Ms. Fisher presented a request from the French-American School of New York for use of the Hommocks Pool for their Day Camp. After a brief discussion, on a motion by Commissioner Druker, seconded by Commissioner Castellani, request was denied. CARPINO-STEFFENS FIELDS Ms. Fisher distributed a memo received this date from David McGuckin, Athletic Director for Mamaroneck Schools. Mr. McGuckin requested that the School District be allowed to use the Carpino-Steffens Fields on Wednesday, May 15, 2002, due to rain on Monday, May 13, 2002. The Commission approved this request provided that Ms. Fisher can arrange to have the field maintenance completed before the time the fields are needed. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Commissioner Druker, seconded by Commission Paonessa the meeting adjourned at 8:25 P.M.
