ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES:
On a motion by Commissioner Paonessa, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the Meeting
Minutes of April 17th and May 8' were unanimously approved as submitted.
SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE:
1. A Thank You gift to Mr. Robert Greason, House League Hockey Director was presented.
2. The Department has been very busy preparing for the summer season. The outdoor
pools are being prepared for opening day on Saturday,June 16t". Staff are being hired
and trained for all the various summer programs and facilities.
3. Current Program enrollment numbers, as of June 8' are as follows:
June 8th 2011 June 3rd, 2010 June 4th, 2009
Hommocks Playground 386 400 363

Tennis Camp 118 144 142

MSC in Training 20 20 20
Chairman Druker inquired whether the lower enrollment numbers for Preschool Camp
were affected by the $50 fee increase from last year. He suggests lowering the fee for
next summer to see if that brings the enrollment numbers up.
Ms. Fisher noted that lowering the fee would mean reinstating the subsidy unless
significant expenses could be cut. She suggested investigating the possibility of having
only 5 year olds at Monroe next year. This would then potentially increase the
numbers at the Pre-School Camp site hosting the 3 thru 5 year olds.

and will be on the site at the tennis courts from June 20th to August 15th for use by the
Tennis Camp participants.
14. The Department will be filling the cracks and voids (as best as possible) on the Central
School Tennis Courts this week. The goal will be to make them as safe as possible for
play this summer.
15. Enclosed is a copy of the minutes from the June 8th, 2010 Recreation Commission
meeting that references the resolution made endorsing the purchase of the Industrial
System over the Commercial System for the ice rink renovations.
16. Steve Altieri and I attended a meeting on May 31'with Mamaroneck Schools
Superintendent, Robert Shaps regarding the planned repaving project of the Hommocks
School parking lot. Apparently this isn't a re-paving project but a full reconstruction
project that will take place all summer long.
BUDGET AND RINK UPDATE:
Town Administrator, Stephen V. Altieri informed the Commission that the Town is preparing for
the 2012 budget with the 2%tax cap in place. He also discussed the possibility of turning the
Recreation Department into a Enterprise Revenue Fund, which would mean that the
Department was self sufficient and required no tax subsidy. Although the Recreation
Department covers all its' operating expenses, it is not covering employee benefits and
pensions of approximately$130,000.
This type of operation would then allow for any excess revenue to remain with the Department,
thus creating its' own Capital Reserve Fund.
Chairman Druker inquired about what the Commission's role would be in this type of
restructuring. Mr. Altieri assured the Commission that there would be no change in their role
and responsibilities. Since this is more of an accounting issue, all of the changes would really be
behind the scenes.

Hammock's Pool Bill
Ms. Fisher updated the Commission on the Hommock's Pool usage bill. She stated the Town is
still unwilling to pay the three previous pool bills because clarification is still needed. Ms. Fisher
has urged the new schools superintendent to create an hourly rate for usage. This would help
to determine how the Town uses the pool in the future.
Hommocks Park Ice Rink Feasibility Study:
Mr. Lunde discussed the two potential phases for the ice rink renovation project. Phase one
would consist of replacing the ice mat system, dasher-boards, arena lighting, dehumidification
and new portable floor. Phase two would consist of the roof coating and the mechanical
system. Chairman Druker, questions the dangers of not acting on these phases in a timely
manner. Mr. Lunde explained that the inadequate dehumidification system is the biggest
threat at this time. The Commission is still unanimously in favor of the Industrial System over
the Commercial System.
