HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014_03_26 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES March 26, 2014 PRESENT: James Druker William Paonessa Rita Plansky Susan Sigel EXCUSED: Robert Morello Terry Rainaldi Amy Siskind ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Jaine Elkind Eney, Town Board Liaison Eileen Puleo, Commission Secretary Steve Altieri, Town Administrator Tony Siligato, Town Comptroller Rob Lunde, Ice Rink Manager CALL TO ORDER: The meeting held in the Courtroom at the Town Center was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Chairman Druker. ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES: On a motion by Chariman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa, the Meeting Minutes of February 18, 2014 were approved as submitted. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE: Ms. Fisher reported the following: 1. Registration for Spring/Summer programs started Saturday, March 22nd 2. A copy of the April/May rink calendar is enclosed for your information. 3. There are two sessions of Skating School remaining this season. 4. Last year's Ladies Bingo was a big success. This year it will be held on Friday, May, 2nd 5. We are excited to offer Scuba again this Spring/Summer with a new qualified instructor. 6. Coxe & Graziano made a donation of$350 for this year's Summer Concert Series. 7. Full payment has been received from the NY Rangers for their Alumni Game. $ 862 Security $1,840 Ice Rental $3,660 Hommocks Park Ice Rink Trust Fund 8. House League Hockey participants will get to practice at the NY Rangers practice facility on Wednesday, April 2nd 9. The Memorial Park Tennis Courts will open on April 1st and an attendant will be on duty starting May 1st 10.The Hommocks pool will be closed over the Spring Break for annual maintenance. Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes March 12, 2013 - Page 2 SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED: 11.Maintenance on the fields took place on March 21st. The fields should be ready for use starting Saturday, April 5th 12.The Community Yard Sale is scheduled for Sunday, May 4th. Proceeds will be donated to the Ice Rink Trust Fund. 13.Five contractors submitted bids for the fence replacement around the Memorial Park Tennis Courts. All work is scheduled to be completed before May 12th 14.MYHA will be holding an Ice Breaker Tournament May 2nd — 4th All proceeds will go towards the new locker room additions. Ice rental fees will be waived for this event. A new separate rink trust fund account will be set up that this money will go into. REQUEST FROM SUE MCCRORY: Town Supervisor, Nancy Seligson has asked the Recreation Commission to consider a request from resident Sue McCrory. Ms. McCrory has asked the Commission to consider a reduced fee structure for disabled adults that reside in the Town or Village of Mamaroneck. After further discussion, the Commission unanimously decided that there would be no change to the fee structure but that requests would be reviewed on a case by case basis if there is a need. FACILITY USE REQUEST MATT POPOLI: Mr. Matt Popoli, Westchester Soccer League has requested field usage at Carpino- Steffens field on Sundays, April 13th — June 29th from 4:00 — 6:00 P.M. Unfortunately, at this time we do not have any field availability, therefore, the request has been denied. LARCHMONT MAMARONECK YOUTH LACROSSE FEE: Mr. Peter Bennett from LMYL League has requested field usage at the Carpino-Steffens fields. The Commission has established at $30/hr. usage fee for the 11 dates that were requested. 2014 CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN: Mr. Stephen Altieri, Town Administrator and Mr. Tony Siligato, Town Comptroller presented a PowerPoint presentation to the Recreation Commission on the 2014 Capital Improvement Plan and Proposed Energy Services Contract and Related Improvements. This plan will incorporate the Hommocks Park Ice Rink, The Town Center, Weaver Street Firehouse and the Town's street lighting. The Hommocks Park Ice Rink Improvements will include: • Various lighting retrofits throughout the rink • Replacement of old chiller and refrigeration equipment and sub soil piping • Replacement of old dehumidification equipment • Electrical service upgrades • Replacement of dasher boards • New equipment building with ice melt pit with heat reclamation capability • Installation of Infrared Heating in bleacher area Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes March 12, 2013 - Page 3 2014 CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN CONTINUED: • Application of reflective/protective roof coating • Installation of new multi-purpose flooring • New rubber floor matting in rink area • New front entry doors Energy Service Contract costs for the Hommocks Park Ice Rink - $3,900,000. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Commissioner Paonessa, seconded by Chairman Druker, the meeting adjourned at 8:15 P.M.
