SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED:
5. Enclosed is a copy of the April Rink Calendar. As a reminder, public skating sessions are
reduced as of May 1st until we close on June 12' . However, ice rentals continue to be
booked.
6. Enclosed for your review are the 2010-2011 Youth Hockey Revenue/Expense
Comparison and Youth Hockey survey results.
7. Session 5 of Skating School is underway with 292 currently enrolled, last year we had
290 registered.
8. Enclosed are copies of March 2010 and 2011 Hommocks Park Ice Rink General
Admission numbers.
9. We are pleased to announce that all of our camp directors are returning this summer, as
well as many support staff.
Enclosed is a copy of the Summer Concert/Movie flier for your information. I have also
enclosed some of our sponsorship publicity material as well. Ms. Fisher announced this
year's Movie in the Park will again be sponsored in part by Capital One. Other sponsors
expressing interest include Mercedes of Larchmont. There are also few local venders
who have expressed interest in participating in vendor's night.
10. Last fall the staff created a Facebook page for the Recreation Department. We currently
have 191 monthly active users. The web page allows the Recreation Department to
monitor how many people visited our site on weekly basis. Ms. Fisher explained that the
Recreation Department has full control of information posted and the layout of our
page to best cater to or residents needs and interest each season.
11. Ms. Fisher discussed her conversation with the Town's Comptroller regarding the debt
service expense and interest payments based on three purposed upgrade options for
the Hommock's Ice Rink. Chairman Druker stated that since 1999 expenses at the rink
have increased by approximately 23% and revenue by approximately 40%. Mr. Odierna
stated he would like the Recreation Department to put together a strong presentation
to the Town Board in order for them to better understand the mechanisms behind the
occurrences in department, and the importance behind putting additional finances into
the rink.
Ms. Fisher announced the pool revenue exceeded the original figure from the previous
year. The pool brought in last year$600,000 making this the first year we covered all
pool expenses. The previous pool district invoices have yet to be paid.
12. The Memorial Park Tennis Courts opened on April 1st. The park attendant will not be on
duty until May 1st
13. Due to the inclement weather, the opening of the Carpino-Steffens Fields was delayed
until April 8' . All users groups were notified.
14. Our contract with Gus Lucas, Slap Shot Café expires May 31, 2011. Due to the
anticipated closure of the rink for renovations beginning early April, 2012, we thought it
best to consider extending his contract for approximately 15 months with 5%fee
increase until Labor Day, 2012. This would get us through the construction at the rink
and still provide service during the summer pool season. While the rink is closed, we
would then start the process of soliciting new request for proposals so that we have a
new contract that will correlate with our present needs when the rink re-opens for the
fall 2012 season.
15. The Hommocks Pool will be closed for annual maintenance April 16' -24t" Reminder
notices are posted at the pool and on the website.
16. We just received notice from the school district that they are planning on repaving the
front of the Hommocks School parking lot this summer. This may potentially have a very
large impact on our camp arrival and dismissal plans and parking for pool patrons. At

this point in time, I have no further details but I will continue to keep you updated. Mrs.
Plansky inquired if there is a possibility to use the parking lot where Blockbuster was
previously located to help ease the complication of camper pickup. It was decided that it
wasn't completely positive that we could use the space, or if it would even be available
for the time camp would be held. Ms. Fisher purposed the back area of the Hommock's
School be used as a pickup and drop off area. The Town could save money by not
putting up a tent as previous years have used that area for camp. Instead we could use
the back lot for camp activities and make the leaf area into a parking lot for pool
patrons.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by
Commissioner Paonessa, seconded by Chairman Druker, the meeting adjourned at 8:00
P.M.
