MEETING MINUTES
August 9, 2016

This special meeting, held at Vintage 1891 Kitchen, 2098 Boston Post Road, Larchmont was
called to order at 6:20 P.M. by Chairman Druker.
ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES:
On a motion by Commissioner Paonessa, seconded by Commissioner Plansky, the Meeting
Minutes of May 10, 2016 were unanimously approved as submitted.
SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE:
Ms. Fisher reported the following:
1. Introduction of Vicky Laoutaris, our newly hired Recreation Supervisor. Vicky filled the
position vacated by Kyle Thornton on July 8th. An article from the Scarsdale Inquirer
about Vicky is enclosed.
2. An email from Ms. Andrea Stoltz complimenting the Hommocks Camp staff was
enclosed.
3. Applications for the use of the Carpino-Steffens Fields have been approved for:
• Mamaroneck School District
• Larchmont Junior Soccer league
• Westchester Soccer Club
4. Our Kayaking and Paddle Boarding classes will begin the week of August 15t"
5. Due to inclement weather, the July 18th outdoor concert was postponed until Monday,
August 8th. Sponsorships for this year's summer concert series totaled $6,600.
6. The 2016/2017 Fall-Winter Recreation Brochure was mailed out to residents on August
1st. Program registration is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 22n 1. Our new online
registration will also be available.

SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED:
7. The Hommocks Playground and Pre-School Camps conclude on Friday, August 12t". The
enrollment numbers were as follows:
Hommocks Playground Camp—422 Pre School Camp— 125
Breakfast Club— 155 Pre School Extended Day—48
Extended Day— 108 Camp Monroe—98
Hommocks On The Go - 20
8. The pool will be opening to the public at 11:00 am starting Monday, August 15th since
camps have ended. Labor Day hours will be: Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am —8:40 pm
and Monday 10:00 am —6:40 pm. The pool will be closed for post summer cleaning,
September 6'— 11t". Beginning September 12t", we will need to resume our School
Year Schedule of evening hours of 6:00—9:10 pm.
9. Jennifer Pollak will soon be leaving us for maternity leave. Eileen will fill in at the pool
while Jennifer is out.
10. Our swim lessons had 84 participants and our Competitive Swim Team had 82
swimmers enrolled.
11. Our Multi Sport camps that are held at the end of the summer for 2 weeks had 36
enrolled and the Sport Squirts program had 21 enrolled.
12. The Summer Sizzler fitness program had 20 adults enrolled.
13. Aqua Jog &Aqua Zumba programs had 21 participants enrolled.
14. Our Adult Paint Night was held on July 8th
15. The Golf Squirts and First Play Golf programs were a success this summer with 19
enrolled.
16. The Brick Kids program held at the end of August had 14 enrolled.
17. The invitations for Camp Monroe's Annual Young Artists Show and Camp Murray's Sing-
Along are enclosed and all are invited to attend.
18. Our Golf instructional programs were very successful with 46 enrolled.
19. The 3rd Annual Invitational Swim Meet was a huge success. The Swim Team has done so
well this year that they have moved up a division.
20. Adult tennis lessons for both Youth and Adults will finish up the week of August 18t"
The fall series of lessons are scheduled to begin the week of September 12t"
21. Work has begun on the 2017 budget. Budget discussions will most likely be held at the
September 13th commission meeting.
22. Landtek is scheduled for Friday, August 26'to aerate, overseed, topdress and fertilize
the Hommocks Fields.
23. The first ice rental at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink is scheduled for Monday, August 22t"
CHAIRMAN UPDATE:
Chairman Druker reminded all Commissioners to try and make it out to some of the many
Recreation Department events and activities being offered this season.
CAPITAL PROJECTS UPDATE:
The Project to open up the brick wall separating the pool and the concession was completed in
time for the summer season. This has really opened up the space for patrons to move between
the pool and the snack bar. We received very positive feedback on this project from patrons.
Photos are enclosed. This fall, we will be replacing the existing rink pathway lights and poles
and we will be installing a new interior door into the Community Room.

HOMMOCKS POOL HOURLY RENTAL FEE:
A proposal has been made to raise the existing hourly pool rental rate from $95/hour to
$125/hour. After discussion, the Recreation Commission recommended that the rental rate for
a Private Group increase to $125/hour and a Non-profit rate be established at $100/hour. On a
motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Plansky, the commission unanimously
approved the rate structure.
EVALUATION OF 2016 CAMP SEASON:
Camp Monroe:
Mrs. Maria Ellin, Director of Camp Monroe, stated that her 98 campers are having a wonderful
time this summer.
The camp day is broken into seven, 30 minute periods. Daily activities include: arts & crafts,
sprinkler, snacks, playground and lunch. Special events included: visits by the Town of
Mamaroneck Police and Fire Departments and the Volunteer Ambulance Corps, as well as
Parent Visiting Day, Crazy Hair Day,Treasure Hunt Day, Summer Birthday Party, Field Day, Art
Show and the end of camp Ice Cream Social.
Parent Comments:
• Maybe have the option of an additional hour each day.
• More nature activities.
• Wish we could come back!
• Everything was awesome! My son loved Camp Monroe.
• The variety of things to do each week was amazing and impressive.
• We love Camp Monroe! Thanks for a great summer
• We've been really happy with the camp. Counselors/Directors ran everything really
smoothly.
Thank you to:
• Jill Fisher for being available and helpful at Camp Monroe. She always makes the time
to visit Camp Monroe even though she has a busy schedule. I appreciate all the things
she does for me. She's a gem.
• Vicky—Thanks for checking to see if we need anything and for spending time with us at
Camp Monroe.
• My staff and my assistant Haydee for all they do to make this camp run so well.
• Recreation Commission Members for their support throughout the year which has made
a difference on the new outlook at Camp Monroe.
• Michael Orchanian for making sure that the facility is clean and safe.
• Office staff for typing newsletters and the final report and setting up the text messaging
system. Sheldrake Staff, Amy Bisgnani for always being helpful and kind.
Final Comments:
"It has been a pleasure working for the Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Department".

EVALUATION OF 2015 CAMP SEASON CONTINUED:
Camp Murray:
Ms. Pam Triano, Director of Camp Murray informed the Commission that Camp Murray enjoyed
another successful summer. The Murray School site was a wonderful location this year and she
hopes they can return to this site next summer.
The camp day is divided into 25 minute periods. Daily activities include: fitness, music, arts &
crafts, water play, playground, snack time and story time. Special events included: visits from
the Town of Mamaroneck Police and Fire Departments and the Volunteer Ambulance Corps, as
well as Special Fridays such as Crazy Hat Day, Ice Pop Day, Carnival Day and the end of Camp
Sing-A-Long.
Parent Comments:
Pros
• Sprinklers and water play.
• Playground time, Arts and Crafts and Singing.
• Liked the fact that they had interaction with the counselors.
Cons
• Need AC in every room.
• Didn't like the automatic toilets.
• Drop off and pick up.
• More games in the rooms.
• Some want to go back to Central School.
• Lack of fruit for snacks.
Thank you to:
• Jill Fisher and Maria Gallagher for visiting camp and checking to see if anything was
needed.
• Vicky—We welcome you and look forward to working with you next season.
• My Staff and my assistant Angela for all they do to make this camp run so well.
• The office staff, Michelle, Eileen and Jeff for all their help.
Ms. Triano was happy to have had another safe and successful summer and looks forward to
another camp year in 2017.
Hommocks Playground:
Mr. TJ Ostruzka, Director of the Hommocks Playground and Hommocks On The Go stated that
he and his staff were given the responsibility of keeping 442 campers safe and active.
The camp day was comprised of six, 45 minute blocks. Activities include: arts & crafts, dance,
sports, swimming, game area, black top, field time, tent, sprinklers/slip and slide, and rink time.
These activities change depending on the day.
Special events included: Playland trip, Sportime trip, Maritime Aquarium trip, Crazy Hat Day,
Day Rock,Treasure Hunt, Ice Pop Day, Pizza Day Friday's, Camp Olympics, Carnival Day, Camp
Bar-B-Q/Western Day,Talent Show, Halloween in July, and DJ Bruno.
Hommocks Playground was also visited by the Town of Mamaroneck Police and Fire
Departments and the Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

EVALUATION OF 2015 CAMP SEASON CONTINUED:
Parent Comments:
• Overall—such a great experience. Your counselors are always so great. The young men
overseeing my son's group were kind and wonderful. Thanks!
• All the counselors and people in the camp have been so helpful and nice to the parents
as well.
• He enjoyed everything, can't just pick one.
• This camp has been awesome for my kids.
Recommendation:
• For the 2016 camp season, parents were looking for more of a digital presence online.
They wanted schedules available online, as well as an email address, posted photos of
daily activities and an online schedule. We have been emailing parents the weekly
schedule, but it would be interesting to see what we could do in the future.
• Parents would like the opportunity for the campers to go on more trips.
Thank you to:
• Eileen, for making sure we had what we needed during our transition time. You were
asked to fill huge shoes and did a great job making sure we did not miss a beat.
• Vicky, we cannot wait until next year. Your enthusiasm for summer camp is contagious
and as a team we are going to do great things for the playground camp as well as
Mamaroneck Recreation.
• Bruno, another wonderful summer that would not have been possible without your
help.
• Thank you to the office staff at the Recreation Department. Thank you for all the hard
work you do every day to keep our camp going.
Final Thought:
The Hommocks Playground camp continues to grow and improve. I am excited to say that we
have accomplished our personal goal of sending campers home safe and tired. I look forward
to another successful summer in 2017.
