HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016_05_10 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES May 10, 2016 PRESENT: James Druker Robert Morello Nathalie Orans William Paonessa Rita Plansky Terry Rainaldi EXCUSED: Susan Sigel ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Eileen Puleo, Commission Secretary Robert Lunde, Ice Rink Manager Jaine Elkind Eney, Town Board Liaison CALL TO ORDER: The meeting held at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink was called to order at 7:15 P.M. by Commissioner Rainaldi. ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES: On a motion by Commissioner Morello, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the Meeting Minutes of April 5, 2016 were unanimously approved as amended. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE: Ms. Fisher reported the following: 1. Summer program registration is ongoing. Current registration numbers as of May 5th are as follows: Hommocks Playground - 410* Hommocks Extended Day - 100 Hommocks Breakfast Club- 129 Hommocks On The Go - 20 Pre School Camp - 130 Pre School Extended Day - 41 Monroe Pre School Camp - 94 Swim Lessons - 97 Competitive Swim Team - 57 *Not including 10 potential scholarship applicants. The Camp Monroe lottery was not necessary. 2. All camps will begin on Monday, July 6th. Enrollment for the Hommocks On The Go Camp filled the first day of registration. 3. Breakfast Club and Extended Day registrations are up from last year's numbers. 4. The Murray Ave. Preschool Camp is full at 130 campers. 5. The last session of Skating School had 63 enrolled. 6. A copy of the Rink's attendance numbers for March & April, 2016 is enclosed. Attendance for March was significantly down. 7. A copy of the Ice Rink calendar for the months of May and June is enclosed. 8. A copy of the Youth House League Hockey Program Survey results is enclosed. Spring Hockey has currently 64 registered. Last year we had 61 enrolled. 9. The spring session of Golf Programs has been very successful. Adults 13 Youth 24 Parent/Child 18 Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes May 10, 2016 - Page 2 SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED: 10.The Carpino-Steffens Fields are scheduled to be fertilized on June 18th 11.Summer pool hours will go into effect on Saturday, June 20th 12.To date, we have received $4,900 in sponsorships for our summer concert series. 13.The Ice Breaker Fundraiser Tournament was held April 28th — May 1st. A total of 12 teams participated. The tournament netted approximately $18,000 which is to be deposited into the Ice Rink Locker Room Trust Fund account. 14.Memorial Park attendants are on duty as of May 1st. The courts were power washed and a few worn areas were patched. The tennis ball recycling container has been hung up in the courts. 15.The Hommocks fields opened for play on Saturday, April 9th. A fake eagle kite has been installed on the edge of the field to help scare away the geese. 16.The new rink scoreboard has been hung and it looks amazing. 17.The Fall/Winter brochure will go to the printers by the end of May. Registration will begin on Monday, August 22nd via our new on-line registration system. 18.The pool wall was opened up and we are waiting for the gate to be installed within the next couple of weeks. 19.The 2nd Annual Bunny run was a big success again this year. A total of 221 registered as follows: 120 youth and 101 adults. THANK YOU LETTER FROM MICHAEL CHIAPPARELLI: A thank you letter from Mr. Michael Chiapparelli, Head Coach of Mamaroneck High School's Varsity Hockey Team was enclosed. Mamaroneck High School's Varsity Hockey Team won the State Championship this year. ICE RINK FEES: Rob Lunde, Rink Manager proposed to leave all Rink General Admission Fees the same for the 2016-2017 season. The Ice Rink covered all of its operating expenses and debt service and made a profit of$244,828. After much discussion, the Commission agreed to leave the admission fees the same but to increase the ice rental rate by $5.00/hour to $480. On a motion by Commissioner Paonessa, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the commission unanimously approved the proposed rink fees. REQUEST FROM JENNIFER POLLAK, AQUATICS DIRECTOR: The Town of Mamaroneck Swim Club has requested to host the Third Annual Invitational Swim Meet on Friday, July 15th with a starting time around 5:30 PM at the Hommocks Pool. This would require closing down the main pool for public swimming but keeping the outdoor areas open to the public. Vendors will be on site and a BBQ will be held offering food for purchase for all pool patrons. Chairman Druker made a motion to approve this request, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa. All in favor.
