HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019_12_10 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES December 10, 2019 PRESENT: James Druker, Chairman Nathalie Orans William Paonessa Rita Plansky Terry Rainaldi Susan Sigel Brian Welsh ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Vicky Laoutaris, Recreation Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney, Town Board Liaison Eileen Puleo, Commission Secretary CALL TO ORDER: The meeting held at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink was called to order at 7:25 P.M. by Chairman Druker. ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES: On a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the Meeting Minutes of November 12, 2019 were unanimously approved as amended. CORRESPONDENCE: 1. Enclosed response letter to Ms. Santry regarding a request for creating a separate permit or waiving the permit requirement for the purpose of participating on the summer swim team program. 2. Enclosed email from Mr. Stephen Brugge, Director of Facilities, Mamaroneck School District informing the Recreation Department that Co-Op camp will be located this summer at Central School. This will leave the Recreation Department without a site to host Camp Rockingstone. Vicky Laoutaris will reach out to the district to inquire about any other space prior to researching some alternative options. Ms. Fisher will keep us updated on this matter. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE: Ms. Fisher reported the following: 1. The Recreation House Hockey program has an enrollment of 93. Last year at this time we had 102 enrolled. 2. Session 2 of skating school will conclude on December 20th with 277 participants. Session 3 of skating school registration begins on December 16th 3. The December and January Ice Rink Calendar is enclosed for your information. 4. Many fall programs are concluding in the next week. The winter session of programs will begin in January. 5. A character skate was held on Sunday, November 24th. Chase from Paw Patrol visited the rink and spent the day skating with the patrons. 6. The Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department Toy Drive will be held on Sunday, December 15th 7. Our 2019 tennis programs had a total enrollment of 517 participants. Last year we had a total enrollment of 567 participants. Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes December 10, 2019 β€” Page 2 SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED: 8. The General Admission at the ice rink for the Thanksgiving weekend totaled $13,977. Last year revenues totaled $15,491. 9. Ladies Bingo was held on November 15th with 146 ladies enrolled. 10.The Carpino-Steffens Fields were aerated, seeded, and fertilized on November 20th. The fields will be closed until April 2020. 11.The ice rink has been decorated for the season. Rob and his staff did an incredible job decorating the facility. 12.The new electric car charging stations will be placed in the Hommocks Parking lot sometime this spring. 13.There is no new update to report on the status of our 2020 Capital Budget. The Town Board will finalize the 2020 Budget by December 18tn 14.The Community Solar Panel Project was presented to the Town Board for approval. The solar panels would be installed on the roof of the Hommocks Park Ice Rink. The project would create a revenue of$36,000 for the Ice Rink. Ms. Fisher will provide more information at the January meeting. 15.Bid packets are being compiled for the Ice Rink Locker Room/Shower renovation. Bid packets are scheduled to be available January 15th. Town Board Liaison, Elkind Eney shared information on a possible grant she is exploring for these renovations in the amount of$250,000. It is very preliminary but we will continue to provide updates on this matter. 16.We will be ordering a polar bear costume as a mascot for the Hommocks Park Ice Rink. 2020 RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING DATES: On a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the Commission unanimously adopted the following meeting dates for 2020: January 21stβ€” Joint Jan./Feb. Meeting March 10th April 21st May 12th June 2nd July 14th August 11tn* September 29th β€” Joint Sept./Oct. Budget Meeting November 10th December 8th** * Location To Be Determined ** At The Hommocks Park Ice Rink All meetings will begin at 7:15 P.M. at the Senior Center, 1288 Boston Post Road in Larchmont, except where noted. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 P.M.
