HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017_12_05 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES December 5, 2017 PRESENT: James Druker, Chairman Dr. Robert Morello Nathalie Orans William Paonessa Rita Plansky Terry Rainaldi Susan Sigel ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Jaine Elkind Eney, Town Board Liaison Eileen Puleo, Commission Secretary CALL TO ORDER: The meeting held at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink was called to order at 7:25 P.M. by Chairman Druker. ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES: On a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Morello, the Meeting Minutes of November 14, 2017 were unanimously approved. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE: CORRESPONDENCE: 1. A Thank You letter was received from Mrs. Meredith Pollack. Mrs. Pollack's child participated in our Edible Creations Program and he absolutely loved the program and the instructors. 2. A Thank You e-mail was received from Mrs. Aimee Carino. Mrs. Carino's children participate in our House League Hockey Program and her two children truly love playing at the Hommocks Ice Rink this year. Mrs. Carino is very happy with the program and couldn't be more grateful for them to have the opportunity to play with these fantastic coaches. PROGRAMS: Ms. Fisher reported the following: 1. The House League Hockey program has an enrollment of 107 as of November 30th. 2. Session 3 of skating school registration begins on December 11th. 3. The December Ice Rink Calendar is enclosed for your information. 4. The Kids and Adult Paint Night Program took place on Friday, December 1st with 36 participants enrolled. 5. Many fall programs are concluding in the next week. The winter session of programs will begin in January. The Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department Toy Drive will be held on Sunday, December 10th. 7. Groupon sales to date are at $1,710. This money is being deposited into the Rink General Admissions revenue account. 8. Our 2017 tennis programs had a total enrollment of 508 participants. Last year we had a total enrollment of 532 participants. 9. A copy of the new "Hommocks Happenings" flyer was enclosed for informational purposes. The Ice Rink will be hosting a Winter Festival on Sunday, January 28th and have scheduled several "Skate with a Character" dates on Sundays. 10.Santa will be at the ice rink on Sunday December 24th from 12:00 - 2:30 pm. 11.The General Admission for the Thanksgiving weekend totaled $14,515. Last year revenues totaled $14,566. 12.Ladies Bingo was held on November 17th with 120 ladies enrolled. 13.The Learn to Play Hockey Program co-sponsored with the NY Rangers is fully enrolled with 65 participants. This program will begin on January 6th. 14.The Carpino-Steffens Fields were aerated, seeded and fertilized on November 20th. The fields will be closed until April. 15.The ice rink walkway has been decorated for the season with snowflakes. Rob and his staff did an incredible job decorating the facility. 16.The new TV monitor that will be used for locker-room assignments has been installed over the lobby doors. A second monitor has yet to be hung up in the back of the rink but will be completed in the near future. A photo is enclosed. 17.The new speakers have been installed in the rink lobby. 18. Invoices will be sent out to the Mamaroneck School District and Larchmont Jr. Soccer League for reimbursement of their share of the field maintenance costs. 19.We will be moving forward with the expansion of the ice rink concession area. This capital improvement project has been approved for $40,000. Plans are being drawn up and the construction phase will be put out to bid. 20.The other capital improvements planned for 2018 will include purchasing a new shade awning for the Hommocks Playground Camp and installing new roof shingles on the building at Memorial Park. 21.According to our consultant, Jay Reichgott, the Kayak launch study is almost complete and I hope to share this information at the next meeting. 22.We are looking into a new software system to help with on-line camp registration. CampDoc will allow parents to complete the mandatory camp application forms on-line during their registration process. Currently, parents must complete a paper form and return it to the Recreation Department Office. TEEN TRAVEL CAMP REFUND POLICY: Vicky Laoutaris, Recreation Supervisor has requested a new Refund Policy for Teen Travel Camp be approved for this coming camp season. This new refund policy has been proposed: • Request for refunds will be approved when received in writing directly to the Superintendent of Recreation and received in the Recreation Department Office prior to the established Teen Travel Camp deadline. A 10% administrative fee will be charged. Online Registration Convenience fees are not refundable. • All approved refunds will follow the Town Finance Department's bill payment schedule. • After the established camp deadline, no refunds will be issued unless the Town is able to fill the vacancy. After further discussion and review, Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa, made a motion to approve the new Teen Travel Camp Refund Policy as recommended. All in favor. January 9th February 20th March 20th April 17th May 8th June 12th July 10th August 7th* September 11th October 16th November 13th December 11 th** * Location To Be Determined ** At The Hommocks Park Ice Rink All meetings will begin at 7:15 P.M. in the Senior Center, 1288 Boston Post Road in Larchmont, except where noted. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 P.M.
