HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016_02_16 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES February 16, 2016 PRESENT: James Druker William Paonessa Terry Rainaldi Susan Sigel EXCUSED: Robert Morello Nathalie Orans Rita Plansky ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Jaine Elkind Eney, Town Board Liaison Eileen Puleo, Commission Secretary CALL TO ORDER: The meeting held at the VFW Lodge was called to order at 7:20 P.M. by Commissioner Rainaldi. ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES: On a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the Meeting Minutes of January 12, 2016 were approved as amended. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE: Ms. Fisher reported the following: 1. Session 4 of Skating School has begun with 390 enrolled. Last year we had 373 enrolled at this time. 2. A copy of the February Hommocks Park Ice Rink Calendar of Events is enclosed. 3. A copy of the January 2016 Rink General Public skating admission attendance numbers is enclosed. Attendance was down for the month by 586. This can be attributed to our closure on Saturday, January 23rd due to a blizzard. 4. Many of our winter programs are underway. Two S.T.E.A.M programs will be offered over the Superintendent Conference Day on March 9th 5. A copy of the 2nd Annual Bunny Hop and Lil' Bunny Hop flyer is enclosed. 6. The Spring/Summer brochure is scheduled to be mailed out the week of February 22nd. It is currently on our website. 7. The Town will be rolling out a new website and new email addresses for the staff. Anyone using the old website will be redirected to the new website. 8. We have work on our 2016 Capital Projects. The new awning at Monroe has been ordered. We are starting to look for alternate quotes to open the brick wall separating the pool lawn and concession area. The Highway Department will be doing the masonry work. 9. We are still waiting on the new scoreboard from Eversan Scoreboards. The estimated delivery is the end of February. Due to the delay, they are taking off the delivery fee of$750. 10.Rob Lunde and Mike Gibson with help from the Town Highway Department are building new lockers for MYHA's equipment. This will be dedicated space just for MYHA. 11.The back door to the ice rink is now in a locked position and cannot be accessed from the outside. This is an attempt to improve the safety and security for our patrons, staff and facility. Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes February 16, 2016 - Page 2 SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED: 12.We received 4 bids for the Grass Maintenance Contract for the Hommocks Fields and Pool Complex. Accocella Contracting won the contract again and it will be valid until November, 2017. 13.Congratulations to Kyle Thornton who got married over the President's Day Weekend. LETTER FROM MIKE CAREW: Mr. Mike Carew of Captain Mikes Diving is requesting pool rental space to instruct a scuba diving program and/or to teach a scuba diving program through the Recreation Department in the Hommocks Pool. After further discussion, the Recreation Commission stated that they prefer Mr. Carew run a Scuba Diving program through the Recreation Department. In the future they may consider allowing him to also rent some pool time if things go well. 2016 SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES: The 2016 Scholarship guidelines were reviewed. The total amount of aid distributed will not exceed $8,000. On a motion by Commissioner Paonessa, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the request to accept the 2016 scholarship guidelines was unanimously approved. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the meeting adjourned at 7:50 P.M.
