HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015_01_13 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES January 13, 2015 PRESENT: James Druker, Chairman Robert Morello Nathalie Orans William Paonessa Rita Plansky Susan Sigel EXCUSED: Terry Rainaldi ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Jaine Elkind Eney, Town Board Liaison Eileen Puleo, Commission Secretary CALL TO ORDER: The meeting held at the VFW Lodge was called to order at 7:20 P.M. by Commissioner Morello. ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES: On a motion by Commissioner Paonessa, seconded by Commissioner Morello, the Meeting Minutes of December 9, 2014 were unanimously approved. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE: Ms. Fisher reported the following: 1. All winter programs are underway. 2. Session 3 of skating school began January 6th with 406 enrolled. Enrollment is up from last year which had 396 registered. 3. The January Ice Rink Calendar is enclosed for your information. 4. The December, 2013 and 2014 Rink General Admission attendance numbers are enclosed for review. 5. The Ice Rink was busy over the Christmas break. General admissions totaled $60,157 between Saturday, December 20th — Sunday, January 4th 6. Our 3rd Paint Night will take place on February 8th 7. Power Volleyball is underway with 53 participants enrolled. 8. The New York Rangers have expressed an interest in hosting an event at the ice rink on Saturday, February 21st from Noon — 2:00 pm. The Rangers Organization would offer a free public skating session for the 2 hours and would reimburse the Town for all admissions during this time. 9. The Recreation Department and the Town Fire Department have teamed up to host the First Annual Bunny Hop 5K Run/Walk on March 22nd 10. Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes January 13, 2015 — Page 2 SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED: 11.The 2015 Spring/Summer brochure is at the printer. Registration is set to start on Saturday, March 14th 12.The broken glass as the ice rink is scheduled to be replaced on Friday, January 9th 13.The rink exterior signs are scheduled for delivery and installation within the next 2 weeks. 14.There was a water main break on Hommocks Road. The water was shut off to the ice rink and Hommocks Middle School on Friday, January 9th between midnight and 6 am to avoid any facility closures during repairs. 15.The new ice rink cash register system will be up and running on January 26th 16.There is no new information regarding reinstatement of the Friday evening pool hours. Ms. Fisher will revisit this option with the school district in the fall of 2015. 17.The new heater units are scheduled to be installed on the ice rinks fire alarm beam detectors. 18.The Mondo flooring that was installed inside the ice rink has begun to buckle against the arena boards. Mondo representatives have been onsite cutting back the flooring and so far, this has resolved the problem. However, the rink has a bigger problem with gaps between several of the dasher boards. Temporary plastic welding has been installed between the gaps. The dasher boards system will need to come down and completely replaced. We hope that we can schedule this work to be done after camp has ended. 19.We have asked Gus Lucas, Slap Shot Café concessionaire to start accepting credit cards. 20.The ice rink has instituted a new policy regarding the use of cell phones while skating. New signs will be posted stating "No Cell Phones, No Cameras, No Headphones & No Handheld Electronics While on the Ice". This new policy will also be for staff and instructors. REQUEST FROM DAN DEMASI: Mr. Dan DeMasi, organizer of the Adult Ice Breaker Hockey Tournament has requested use of the Hommocks Park Ice Rink for their fundraising tournament free of charge. The Ice Rink can accommodate Mr. DeMasi's request for the weekend of April 24th — 26th. All proceeds will go to Hommocks Park Ice Rink Locker-room Trust Fund Account. On a motion by Commissioner Morello, seconded by Commissioner Plansky, the request was unanimously approved.
