HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015_02_17 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES February 17, 2015 PRESENT: James Druker Robert Morello William Paonessa Rita Plansky Terry Rainaldi Susan Sigel EXCUSED: Nathalie Orans ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Jaine Elkind Eney, Town Board Liaison Eileen Puleo, Commission Secretary CALL TO ORDER: The meeting held at the VFW Lodge was called to order at 7:15 P.M. by Chairman Druker. ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES: On a motion by Commissioner Paonessa, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the Meeting Minutes of January 13, 2015 were unanimously approved. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE: Ms. Fisher reported the following: 1. Session 4 of skating school has begun with 373 enrolled. Last year we had 402 enrolled. 2. A copy of the February Hommocks Park Ice Rink Calendar of Events is enclosed. 3. A copy of the January 2015 and 2014 Rink General Public skating admission attendance numbers are enclosed. 4. Many of our winter aquatic programs are currently underway with the following enrollment numbers: Bubble Babies 12 Seahorses 16 Swim Lessons 81 Dolphins 27 Lifeguarding 5 5. Many of our winter programs are underway, including Dancing, Mommy & Me Music & Movement, Singing, Sewing, Art, Zumba, Early Morning Swim and various fitness classes. 6. The February 8th session of Paint Escape was a success with 40 enrollees. 7. Our Groupon deal was a huge success again this year. It has generated over $15,000 since October, 2014. 8. A copy of the January 9th edition of The Journal News highlighting local ice rinks is enclosed. 9. Our shared maintenance man Mike Gibson will return to us on March 1st 10.The new heating units were installed on the fire alarm beam detectors at the ice rink on February 3rd 11.A new piece of glass for the ice rink lobby viewing window has been ordered from a new company. It should be delivered in approximately 2 weeks. Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes February 17, 2015 - Page 2 SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED: 12.The new cash register system at the ice rink was installed. This system will enable us to generate more specific reports in the future. 13.Honeywell will replace the interior and exterior dasher boards the week of February 23rd — 27th New interior boards will be installed but the same exterior boards will go back in place. Honeywell has agreed to compensate Rob Lunde for his overtime to be onsite to oversee this work. 14.The Mamaroneck School District released their 2015 — 2016 calendar and they will be starting school the week before Labor Day this year. We have been notified by the school district that we will not have access to the pool during the daytime due to classes and swim team practice. 15.The Hommocks Park Ice Rink signs are completed and will be installed when the ground conditions improve. 16.Gus Lucas, Slap Shot Café concessionaire has agreed to start taking credit cards. 17.The New York Rangers will be at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink on Saturday, February 21st. They will cover the cost of all admissions from 1:00 — 3:00 pm for anyone that would like to skate. 2014 CAPITAL PROJECTS: We have begun working on our 2015 Capital Projects. We are starting to look for additional quotes for the following projects: • Rehabilitation of Mushroom Pool at Hommocks $9,700 • Replacement of Controllers — Outdoor Pool $4,000 • Replacement of FIBAR Material — Sheldrake Playground $5,300 • Replacement of Pole Tent — Hommocks Camp $10,000 • Installation of LED Fixtures — Exterior of Ice Rink $11,000 2015 SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES: The 2015 Scholarship guidelines were reviewed. The total amount of aid distributed will not exceed $8,000. On a motion by Commissioner Plansky, seconded by Commissioner Morello, the request to accept the 2015 scholarship guidelines was unanimously approved. SENIOR CITIZENS POOL PERMITS: The age to qualify for a Senior Citizens pool permit was recently changed from age 60 to 62. However, there will be approximately 18 individuals who previously qualified for the senior citizen discount that will not qualify this year. On a recommendation from Superintendent Fisher, these 18 permit holders will be grandfathered in if they renew their pass this year. On a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Sigel, the request was unanimously approved. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa, the meeting adjourned at 7:40 P.M.
