SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED:
REQUEST FROM BRENDAN COLLINS, MYHA PRESIDENT:
Mr. Brendan Collins, MYHA, President has requested additional ice time for its program
at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink. MYHA is currently using over 600 hours at Hommocks
with an additional 80 hours at other area rinks. MYHA has approximately 250 kids
participating and is adding 3 new hockey teams for the 2018 - 2019 hockey season. Mr.
Collins is hoping to secure additional time on Monday evenings and any other available
time slots that can be made available to help accommodate their needs. They would
also like to make their practices a full hour instead of 50 minutes which would mean
adjusting the ice time for other users.
Mr. Collins has also requested that the spring ice time have a more structured
discounted rate schedule from March — June. Mr. Collins stated that he would like to
have a multi-year contract if he guarantees the purchase of a set minimum number of
hours.
Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation, Rob Lunde, Ice Rink Manager, Stephen Altieri,
Town Supervisor, Bari Suman, MHS Athletic Director & Brendan Collins, MYHA
President have all met to discuss available ice time for Mamaroneck High School and
MYHA.
Further discussions are needed and this discussion will be re-visited at the June
meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
After a brief discussion regarding the Early Morning Swim time, the Commission feels
that the school district should have never accepted the Masters offer. This new
financial arrangement has had an adverse effect on our program and the Commission
strongly feels that the Town officials should contact the district to re-negotiate a new
and better arrangement. The following resolution was established:
RESOLUTION:
WHEREAS the Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission resolves to urge the
Town Board to exert whatever efforts it deems appropriate to encourage the
Mamaroneck School District to make the hourly pool fees for the Early Morning Swim
program more affordable in order to operate the program at a break even status.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by
Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa, the meeting was adjourned at
8:55 P.M.
