JULY 19, 1990 A regular meeting of the Conservation Advisory Commission (CAC) was held on Thursday, July 19, 1990 in Conference Room A of the Town Center, 740 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, New York. The meeting commenced at 8:25 P.M. Members Present: Kevin Ryan, Chairman Herbert Calman Susan Cavalieri Sandy Feldman Edward M. Hindin p. Others Present: Kathleen Tracy O'Flinn Rene' Rathschmidt, Recorder ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS Approval of Minutes - The minutes of June 21, 1990 were approved. Next Meeting - The members present opted not to schedule a meeting in August. The next scheduled meeting has been set for September 13, 1990. CHAIRMAN REPORTS Earth Day Funds - Kevin Ryan reported that the Earth Day Fair had a net profit of $894.79. He then opened the floor for discussion upon how to best applied these monies. All present agreed that the monies should be spent furthering the causes of Earth Day. Susan Cavalieri informed the Commission that paper recycling at the public schools has become increasing difficult due to a lack of storage for recyclable materials. She therefore, suggested purchasing sheds which could then be given to the schools. She felt that if the CAC was willing to do this then paper recycling would then continue uninterrupted at the schools. The proposal of purchasing sheds was then put to a vote and passed unanimously. CAC MINUTES 7/19/90 • CAC Priority Setting - Members reviewed the topics/projects list which was enclosed in the last minutes packet. After a lengthy discussion of all the items listed, several topics were deleted, combined, and additional. items were added. A copy of the new draft of agenda items is attached. Annual Report - Kevin Ryan stated that he will prepare a report for presentation to the Town Council at their September Meeting. He again reminded everyone that the report has since passed its completion deadline and encouraged all those responsible for articles to complete and submit them immediately. Proposed New Town Litter Law - Tabled until next meeting. NEW OR OTHER BUSINESS Storm Drain Stenciling - Kevin Ryan informed the Commission that he received a letter from Caroline Silverstone requesting that the CAC review the proposed Stencil the Storm Drain project sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension. He noted that the program entailed stenciling local. storm drains with messages alerting the public to the fact that the drains empty into the Sound and other vital waterways and that dumping oil and debris into the drain directly affects these waterways. Sandy Feldman noted that this project could involve area Scouts and Edward Hindin suggested also contacting © local schools for their support in stenciling the drains. The Commission voted to support this project and Kevin Ryan directed the Environmental Coordinator to send a memo stating this fact to Mrs. Silverstone. Water Monitoring - Rene' Rathschmidt reported that Robert Hohberg has completed 15 out 19 stations and the results "don't look bad". She also stated that he will spend the remainder of the summer sampling Gardens Lake. Signs Apartment Programs Beautification Day New York State Water Week 1990 Budget Water Pollution Prevention (Stencil the Town Fishery) The Following Items were Combined: Letter to Residents Bordering Conservation Areas/Inventory of Stream Side Properties Observations and Recommendations for Conservation Areas (WORK PLAN)/School Projects: Conservation Area Entrance Signs/Summer Work Program The CAC will remain current on the status of the following items: Trapping Livingston/Hilltop Road Tree Preservation Law PROPOSED NEW ITEMS Non Toxic Pest Management & Minimal Fertilization Pamphlet Revising Scheduling of Recycling Pickups Environmental Curriculum in Schools Preserving Our Remaining Open Spaces Generic EIS
