HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012_08_15 Traffic Committee Minutes A regular meeting of the Town of Mamaroneck Traffic Committee was held on August 15, 2012 in the Courtroom at the Mamaroneck Town Center located at 740 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, New York Members Present: Chair, Doris Shaw Block Stephen Bartell Donald Sutherland Camille Odierna Linnet Tse Others Present: Lt. Paul Creazzo, Police Department Mary Stanton, Assistant to the Town Administrator Old Business: Update: Complete Streets Report. A group from the Complete Streets Committee met with the Town Supervisor on July 11, 2012 to develop a list of potential projects for the Murray Avenue School area and the North Chatsworth area. Federal Safe Routes to School grants are a possible funding source for these projects and representatives of Complete Streets will be reaching out to the Traffic Committee with a list for preliminary approval. The Chair requested more detail as the proposals are drafted. Update: Parking on Alden Road. In a May 15 e-mail Christine Kegan Price requested increasing the number of parking spaces available on Alden Road, Copley Road and Harmony Drive. Lt. Creazzo investigated the possibility of adding five spots on Alden Road by removing the no parking area near the loading zone in front of the Alden House. He reported, however, that after a discussion with the Fire Department, this option is unworkable. Should there be a fire in that building the Fire Department would require the loading zone space to access the upper floors due to the size of the ladder truck. There is limited access to the Alden House from the front and the rear of the building. Mrs. Price will be contacted and advised of the situation. Lt. Creazzo suggests that the residents of Alden House attempt to negotiate an arrangement with T-Mobile to use their lot. He estimates there are about fifteen parking spots available in the T- Mobile lot. New Business: Town Police Report: Resident Carol J. Aloise called the TMPD to document what she believes is a hazardous condition created by cars legally parked o both sides of Cabot Road. Parking on one side of the street is for two hours between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM Monday through Friday and directly opposite there is a "No Parking Here to Corner" sign. Lt. Creazzo recommends moving the "No Parking Here to Corner" sign further back to create more space between the lines of parked cars for emergency vehicles to enter Cabot Road. Lt. Creazzo will contact the Fire Department for their assessment of the situation. E-mail from Megan McCarthy and Ed Lieber re speeding vehicles on North Chatsworth Avenue between Myrtle Boulevard and Mountain Avenue, and visibility issues going up North Chatsworth Avenue near Edgewood Avenue. Lt. Creazzo reports that North Chatsworth Avenue between Myrtle Boulevard and Mountain Avenue has been monitored for speed and the Police Department for some time and no speeders were identified. He further reported that there has not been an accident reported at that location for the last ten years. For the visibility issue raised at North Chatsworth near Edgewood Lt. Creazzo recommends moving the stop line forward on Edgewood Avenue to aid motorists turning into North Chatsworth and having the brush cut back in the line of vision at that location. Correspondence from David Lichtenstein re:Parking on Colonial Avenue and difficulty turning onto Murray Avenue from Colonial towards Forest Avenue when there are school events. He recommends a crossing guard. Mr. Lichtenstein recommends that one sided parking during school days be extended all the way up Weaver Street. The Committee is not willing to extend the one sided parking to Weaver Street. On the issue of the degree of difficulty turning onto Murray Avenue, the Committee believes that there is no greater visibility problem at that location than in many other areas of the Town. The Committee, therefore, cannot support extending the "No Parking Here to the Corner" twenty feet nor recommending a crossing guard. Item for next meeting's agenda: Leather Stocking Lane consists of a cul de sac behind a cul de sac. Questions have arisen about the safety of this location after a child was recently hit by a car on Leather Stocking Lane. More information to follow. Next Traffic Committee Meeting: October 10, 2012
