HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017_06_19 Board of Architectural Review Minutes BOARD OF ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW June 19, 2017 CALL TO ORDER Present: Ed Jacobson, Diane Neff, Donald Meeker,Joseph Shein, Ken Ricci The meeting was called to order at 8:05PM 2. 35 North Chatsworth Avenue Fence Mr.Jacobson stated that the Board requires more information to reach a decision. Robin Steiner, the managing agent, addressed the Board, Mary Beth a Building Board member, and Mario from Euro Fence were also present. Mr. Steiner stated that it was time to replace fence, and the building had their annual meeting last week and want to improve the exterior. They are proposing to replace the fence with a vinyl slated fence. The Board discussed the option of wood as opposed to vinyl, as well as the linear length of the fence. The Board asked for one specific option (straight or scalloped)with a graphic drawing showing the proposed color and style on the site plan. Mario stated that the planting near the fence will be increased. Mr. Meeker stated he prefers the fence not look like it is plastic and asked if there is a product that is more matt with texture. Mr.Jacobson stated that whatever the fence is installed it would need softening street side. Mr. Steiner stated there is not enough room for plantings as there is less than 6 inches, plantings outside the fence would have to be maintained and would be problematic. Mario stated maybe a wood grain look. Mr.Jacobson suggested Trex and a more background color like the building, as the fence is prominent the Board needs to know exactly what is being proposed. Mr. Meeker asked for photos showing both sides of the fence area. The matter was adjourned. 3. 2543 Boston Post Road signage James Polansky, of Signs Inc. addressed the Board. The building is partly in the Town and partly in New Rochelle. Mr. Polansky stated they are here for the Pylon sign, silver with aluminum background. Letters illuminated. The order of the names is set in stone. The board discussed the pylon and asked if the bottom can be dressed, plants around the base. Mr.Jacobson stated that he would check the Town code as to the current height of the sign. Mr. Polansky stated that they are only refacing the sign not replacing it. The number of signs on the building permissible by code will be checked. Mr. Shein asked that the corner be enhanced with plantings, Mr. Polansky stated he will speak to the dealership. The building will be painted Pelican Grey The elevation of the proposed signage was discussed, Mr. Polansky stated that corporate designed the signage and placement. Mr. Ricci asked that the actual placement of the signs be shown on the Plan. Mr. Meeker state by moving the signs down they would have to move electric. Mr. Ricci responded they should be talking to the design people. The Chrysler sign is moving to the left and the Dodge sign will be placed in that spot. Mr. Meeker questioned the number of signs. Mr. Polansky responded that the second pylon sign and the Dodge sign are in New Rochelle as the building is split into both municipalities.There are 4 signs and 1 pylon in the Town. Placement of the signage was discussed. Landscaping was discussed. Monument sign height must be in code. Mr.Jacobson stated a site plan with monument sign, height, skirt and landscape treatment is required. Mr. Shein asked that the fence around that portion of the site be shown on the plan. Mr. Ricci stated year round plantings that are a hardy thick ground cover is preferred. The matter is adjourned. New Business 615 Fifth Avenue Safe Guard Storage Stan Bonilla, representing the self-storage, behind the salt barn, stated the company operates 75 facilities. He gave a brief history of the project that has received zoning approval. Mr.Jacobson stated the sign code doesn't allow a sign like proposed. Mr. Bonilla stated it is a corporate name and architectural element. Mr. Meeker stated it is a nice way to do it without being overly commercial. The Board discussed the signage. The Board discussed the proposed building, Mr. Bonilla stated they are not changing coverage as they are using the same footprint as the original building. Then loading area is at the front for security. Safe Guard wants the design if the building to be iconic. The Board would like to have the architect at the next presentation.
