SPECIAL MEETING OF THE TOWN BOARD
TOWN OF MAMARONECK, N. Y.
HELD JANUARY 4, 1936
At the Town Offices, 118 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, N. Y.
The meeting, was called to order by Supervisor McCulloch at
3:20 P. M.
-- Present: Supervisor McCulloch
Councilmen Bates, Brennan, Griffin, Meginniss.
The presence was also noted of Town Clerk_ Marvin and Public
Welfare Officer DeVinne.
The Supervisor stated that the meeting was called to consider
the matter of what policy the Town should pursue in purchasing shoes
for clients of the Welfare Office.
A delegation, representing local shoe merchants, headed by
Wm. Jacobs of the Fashion Shoe Store, was present as follows: Joel
Zingesser; Al Lambino of the New York Men' s Shop and the Mamaroneck
Department Store; Max Schwartzkopf of the Novelty Store and Louis
Bleiweis of. the Walk-Over Shoe Store. The dealers presented samples
of the shoes which they desired to sell to the Town and stated that
these shoes have- better wearing qualities than those which the Town
could purchase through the proposed State T. E. R. A. arrangement.
Mr. DeVinne presented samples of the shoes which could be
obtained through the State T. E. R. A.
The local merchants urged that the Town buy shoes through
them in order that they might be permitted to make enough money to
remain in business.
Later in the meeting Mr. Harold Zimmerman of the Endicott
Johnson Shoe Company appeared before the Board and explained the
arrangement which his company had made with the State T. E. R. A.
Mr. DeVinne recommended that the entire matter of what policy
the Town should take in respect to purchasing shoes, clothing, food
and other supplies for welfare clients be referred to the Advisory
Welfare Committee.
On motion by Mr. Griffin, seconded by Mr. Bates, it was
unanimously
RESOLVED, that the entire matter of what policy the
Town should take in respect to purchasing shoes,
clothing, food and other supplies for welfare clients
be and it hereby is referred to the Advisory Welfare
Committee for their recommendation.
At 5: 30 P. M. the Board unanimously resolved to adjourn..
