The Supervisor stated that the meeting had been called to discuss three questions which he then presented for the consideration of the Board. The first matter, he stated, concerned the Fire Department which, in accordance with the by-laws which had been adopted at the time of the formation of the department, had held their annual meeting to elect officers on February 189 1935, which officers must be approved by the Town Board. The Board expressed regret that Chief Donald C. Howe had not been re-elected by the Fire Department and remarked that they had received oral protests against the election but that no letters had been received and no general protest had beer. made by the public. After discussion the Supervisor suggested that the matter be laid on the table until a regular meeting in the near future at which the newly elected officers would be asked to be present. The second question, the Supervisor stated, was in regard to -- the Superintendent of Highways, Mr. Michael Merola, whom he had visited at the hospital and who, he declared, was definitely or, the road to recovery. Yet, it will be a considerable period of time before he will be able to resume his duties as Superintendent of Highways. The Super- visor pointed out that the roads were in need of repair and that in the event that Mr. Merola would be unable to return to work for sixty days some provision should be made by the Town Board for someone to assume his duties. Mr. Brennan was directed to obtain a report from the doctor as to the length of time Mr. Merola would be away and present this re- port to the Town Board for its consideration on Wednesday , February 27, 1935, In connection with highway matters the Board discussed at length the matter of the spreading of employment by the Highway Department, especially to include residents of the unincorporated section. The Board unanimously agreed that immediate steps should be taken to give work to those men residing in the unincorporated section of the Town who are in need of work. The third question, the Supervisor stated, concerned a petition for the removal of special assessments for street improvements in sections known as Maple Hill Part I, Maple Hill Part II, Myrtle and Madison Avenue and Sidewalk Improvements on ;leaver Street, which petition the Deputy Town Clerk thereupon read in full. The Board decided to lay the matter over for further discussion at the regular meeting on February 272 1935. Town Attorney Delius and Assessor Eklund discussed with the Board the matter of figuring the assessed valuation of Sewer District No. 1 for the year 1935. Mr. Eklund explained that after a comparison of the maps of Sevier District No. 1 certain discrepancies had been found. A letter dated February 23, 1935, was received from the Comptroller stating that he had audited the accounts of the Police Pension Fund for the calendar year 1934 and certifying that in his opinion they are correct as stated. The letter was ordered filed. The Supervisor reported on financial matters. He stated that the Town had received a check for approximately 523,000. 00 representing reimbursement on welfare claims and that this had enabled the Town to pay all outstanding welfare claims for the months of Catober and November and two-thirds of the claims for December, 1934. At 4:55 P. M. the Board unanimously resolved to adjourn. i Deputy Town Clerk i
