The meeting commenced at 9:15 AM. N.Y.
Kathy O'Flinn reported that a fund-raising mailing to residents in the
unincorporated area would total 3000 to 4000 households. If the
Committee decided to mail a letter folded over and not in an envelope,
the postal charge would be 11.6 G. If the Committee wanted to include
a photo of the present intersection on the backside of the letter, the
offset process would cost $175 for 3000 copies or $226 for 4000 copies
plus a $35 set up fee. If the mailing was limited to 3000 households
than, the cost of postage would be $348 and offset costs would add $210
for a total cost of $558. After some discussion, the Committee decided
to pursue this format (folded letter with photo on the back) and also
agreed that we should seek donated services frau a printer for the
offset work. Kathy O'PlirnY will pursue this.
It was also agreed that the Committee should call in the pledges now to
help underwrite the expenses of the fund-raising effort. Phyllis Bers
will contact the Larchmont Beautification Committee and Valerie Puglisi
will contact Larchmont Federal Savings to request their pledged
contribution.
Since one local printer suggested that a black and white photo would
offset better than a color snapshot, Kathy O'Flinn will obtain one in
black and white.
The draft of the fund-raising letter was discussed and minor changes
made. A copy of the proposed final letter, incorporating the suggested
changes, is attached.
Committee members also agreed to contact neighborhood associations and
service organizations to determine whether a committee member could
make a presentation on the proposed project at a May or June meeting.
Christine Schellhamiier will contact the Larchmont Gardens Association
and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Maxine Steffens will
contact the Howell Park Association, Newcomers Club and she will phone
Mary McGee to determine the contact person for the Lions Club.

Phyllis Bars will contact the Larchmont Hills Association, Elkan Park
Association, Larchmont Garden Club and she will determine if there is a
local real estate association. Valerie Puglisi will contact the
Rotary.
The Committee also discussed additional publicity in the form of
newspaper articles. Releases will eventually be sent to the Sound View
News and the Daily Times.
The next meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, 1991, 9:15 AM,
Conference Room A.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 A.M.

Dear Resident:
This Summer the Town of Mamaroneck Beautification Committee is hoping to begin
construction on yet another of its highly acclaimed beautification projects.
We, as members of that Committee and as your neighbors, are writing to ask you
to consider financial support for this beautification project planned for the
traffic intersection where Murray Avenue and Weaver Street converge.
We're sure you'll agree that this intersection (photograph is on the other side
of this letter) is presently an eyesore, but with the right improvements it
could offer a warm welcome to those entering the Town in an area that is highly
visible and highly used.
This project is just one of several projects initiated by the Beautification
Committee. Future projects are planned for the Boston Post Road and Weaver
Street Intersection. Most recently, the Committee designed plantings for three
rather large islands along two of the Town's busier roadways, specifically
Murray Avenue at Edgewood Avenue and Forest Avenue off Murray Avenue. This was
done at the Town's expense. The Beautification Committee was recently cited by ' r;
County Executive Andrew O'Rourke for its work on these islands and received a `' !
Westchester County Beautification Certificate of Merit in recognition of its
outstanding contributions to community pride and enhancing the quality of life q '
in Westchester.
The contemplated project will involve considerable expense, even after the
Town's sizable contribution of materials and labor. For that reason we are
reaching out for community support to raise the balance of $3,000. Already we
have received pledges of $850 towards our goal. We need your help too! A $10
contribution will buy one bucket of ornamental grasses; a $ 5 or $50
contribution will buy one shrub. Donors contributing $100 or more will have:
their names added to a plaque at the new intersection.
We hope you can give something. Any amount would be appreciated and would help
to make this planned project a reality. We believe the residents in this Town
want to make it an attractive place to live. What better way to express a warm
welcome than through enhancing the beauty of our roadways.
We thank you for your consideration and look forward to hearing frau you.
