Beautification Committee
The meeting commenced at 9:30 AM.
Councilwoman O'Flinn reported that to date over $6,000 has been
received as a result of the Committee's fund-raising efforts.
After a brief explanation of the County's concerns and restrictions
with regard to the proposed height of the wall for the island at Weaver
street/Murray Avenue, Councilwoman O'Flinn introduced Town
Administrator Steve Altieri and Town Engineer Shimon Gitlitz. Further
explanation and discussion followed after which the Committee agreed
that the original design should be modified as follows: remove
concrete found below the removed asphalt (57'x33') ; construct an
outside wall 6" higher than the asphalt of fieldstone and another wall
5' towards the center and 6" higher than the first. This will create a
2-tiered triangular planting bed. It is to be filled with soil and
await planting. The Committee also discussed the plantings recommended
by Larchmont Nurseries and Cooper's Corner Nursery. It was agreed that
the plantings suggested by Merilyn Pucillo of Cooper's Corner Nursery
were more appropriate and only needed same rearrangement for the new
2-tiered design. Councilwoman O'Flinn agreed to ask Merilyn Pucillo to
redesign the plantings. The Committee agreed that they would like to
take advantage of Merilyn Pucillo's offer to supervise the plantings.
Councilwoman O'Flinn provided an update on other business:
Rouken Glen Island - Margie Cohen, Peggy Perrin and Kathy O'Flinn met
with Lynn Kotzen this summer to discuss possible improvements to that
island. Since the Committee would not have an opportunity to study the
island until later this Fall, it was agreed that as an interim step
Councilwoman O'Flinn would arrange for a cleanup of the island
including removal of weeds-vines and poison ivy along the stone wall.
The work was done within days and improved the appearance considerably.

Roses along fence at Lot#1 - As suggested by the Committee "Blaze"
roses will be planted - but not until next Spring.
Boston Post Road improvements - plantings will be fileted within the
next few weeks after sidewalk and curb construction.
The meeting adjourned at 10:30 AM.
