The meeting commenced at 9:15 AM.
Samples of the completed fund-raiser mailing piece were distributed to
the Committee. Kathy O'Flinn explained that they already had been
sorted by postal carrier route and were ready for delivery to the post
office, but actual mailing would be delayed at least one week until the
flowers are planted at the islands on Murray Avenue and Forest Avenue.
Larchmont Copy & Supply Center produced the mailing piece at a total
cost of $50. Their contribution in services amounted to $278.88.
Christine Scbellhammer submitted the latest checks received by her:
$150.00 Larchmont Federal Savings, $50.00 Phyllis Bers.
Marjorie Cohen suggested that perhaps a sign be placed at the
intersection stating something similar to:
"Next Beautification Project/We Need Your Support".
The Committee was enthusiastic and in agreement and Kathy O'Flinn
indicated she would pursue this.
An artist's rendering of the proposed project, prepared by V;rgin;a
Renz, was shown to the Committee. It was agreed that the sketch could
be shown to resident organizations to assist in fund raising efforts.
The Committee was grateful for the generous offer of Virginia Renz'
time and talents.
Christine Schel1himer graciously offered to speak at four upcoming
meetings to explain the proposed project and ask for contributions.

Kathy O'Flinn advised the Caunittee that the Town intended to
transplant five rhododendrons and two or three hemlocks from a local
conservation area due to an encroachment. The Committee was asked to
suggest a possible site for transplanting. Several members suggested
that the rhododendrons be moved to the wooded area between Murray
Avenue and Weaver Street, adjacent to Alton Toby's property and that the
hemlocks be planted parallel to his property line.
The plans for the Boston Post Road between Hammocks Road and Rock Ridge
Road were shown to the Committee and discussed. The Camnittee members
felt quite strongly that the trees should be moved back from the Post
Road so that they would have a better chance of surviving They agreed
that the proposed 10 foot width for the planting beds was more than
generous and they could easily live with a 5' wide planting bed if the
trees were moved back.
Kathy O'Flinn brought to the Committee's attention a Sound View News
article featuring Mary McGee who was recently awarded "The Acclamation
Award" by the 9th District Federated Garden Clubs of New York State,
Inc. Hats off to Mary!
A tentative date of June 18 was set for the next meeting. In the
interim, Committee members are asked to "spread the word" about the
project and seek support from friends and neighbors.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 AM.
