Y. 10538 NEXT MEETING: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 8:00 P.M. AT THE VILLAGE CENTER Minutes of CFY meeting, October 9, 1986, 8 p.m. Members present: Judy Call, Nancy Teply, Susan Greenhill, Odin Zackman, Frank Stilo, Bill Reilly, Suzanne Roniger, Lee Korchin, Nancy Sahlein, Mary Ellen Wallace, Bob Reynolds, Bart Dinardo, Betty McSherry, Enid Friedman, Brigie Dickinson The meeting was called to order by Judy Call. Lee Korchin had an addition to the minutes. The youth officers of the tri-municipality are trying to get an office IN THE HIGH SCHOOL from which educational services can be made. Treasurer's Report: $ 1581.63 (all belongs to SAFE RIDES) Checking 672.17 Savings $2253.80 Odin Zackman reported on OASIS. There is now an executive board and adult supervision (Cindy and Bob Boss) for St. Thomas. They have formed committees to handle music, light, sound, etc. and refreshments, publicity, etc. Theyplan to open Orebtr 21. Benita Marks helped with letter to the community. Judy Call said that three checks for OASIS arrived today. Odin and Josh Friedian want to organize an after school tutoring program for the homeless. They want to make it a game, so it would be fun, and are looking for an eager young teacher to help. Superintendent Colb is supportive of the idea. Kathy Donnison is using the kind of learning method that Josh & Zack have in mind (Josh is in her class) . Students are going out into the community to learn about its history. Josh is working in Suzi Oppenheimer's office. State Assemblyman Tocci, who was scheduled to address this meeting, will come at a later date, by mutual consent. Sue Greenhill has completed the new membership list. Ruth Santos gave out flyers for a conference on Substance Abuse, given by the Westchester Children's Association, November 7, 1986. For information, call 94+6-7676. Bill Reilly is working on OASIS. He has also been working on repercussions from "The Letter." This is an anonymous letter written by a parent whose son went to a party where alcohol vos served. The writer said that tV,e kids think Safe Homes is a joke, and the writer seemed to hold the community re-possible for parents' inability to keep the children away from these parties. There was a discussion of what the parent might have done, that would have beenmore effective (and fairer) than distributing this negative letter to everyone remotely concerned in the community. More discussion on this is planned. More discussion on this is planned. The PTA Council Minutes of CFY meeting, October 9, 1986 p. 2 and CFY want to have a forum at the High School PTA meeting, on November 13. OASIS will be open Friday evenings, with the hope of expanding to Saturdays. They have a three months trial at St. Thomas. They are being careful not to invest too much money in supplies, etc. until they see if it goes. Mary Ellen Wallace repprteithat there will be a Senior Citizen Bazaar on October 24 & 25, with wonderful goodies and crafts. She asked that we get the separated couple club off the ground, because single parents have a great need for this group. The next issue of FAMILIES TOGETHER is coming out next month. The three youth officers, Bob Reynolds, Frank Stilo and Bart Dinardo have many programs going in the schools to teach the children bicycle safety, Halloween safety, and other legal and safety matters of importance. YES continues to have more jobs that kids willing to take them. Some jobs cannot be filled by those under 16, because they are somewhat haz rdous. This includes working with solvents, rotary motors, slicing machines, etc. Those under 14 cannot get working papers. Some employers do not follow these rules, and those who work for them are taking chances with insurance, etc. The People Meeting People meeting today discussed sex education in the schools. Judy Wilbur was the speaker. Carol Brodin is approaching the Board of Education with a plan for a sex education program in the Mamaroneck school system.
