Minutes of CFY meeting on October 3, 1988, 8:00 pm, Village
Center
The meeting was called to order at 8:05 pm by Anne Martin,
co-chairperson. Attending were: Ellen Hirsch, Susan Vieser,
Ellen Fentas, Bob Neaman, Bill Reilly, Frank Stilo, Bob Reynolds,
Bart DiNardo, Katherine Abrams, Suzanne Roniger, Dena Bock,
Susan Amlicke, Judy Zern, Susie Phillips, Joey Faust, Wendy
Call, Joe Paldino, John ' Sohnapp, Dan Schwager, Cindy Hesel,
Liz Davidson, Fudy Call Lee Korchin, Anne Martin, Caroline
Silverstone, 'and Nancy Teply. Excused were: Barbara Pearson,
Nancy Sahlein, Eleanor Dreyfus, Wendy Kreeger, Benita Marks,
and Penny Oberg.
Lee Korchin related to us the success story of CFY 's project,
Children 's Corner, and summarized our involvement with MHS
PTSA in programs on underage partying and drinking.
All members present introduced themselves and the organiza-
tion they represent.
Liz Davidson from the Junior League informed us about a state
funded project called SAFE Place, where local runaway and home-
less youth will be able to find a connection to help through
local business establishments.
Bill Reilly and the Youth Officers, Frank Stilo, Bob Reynolds,
and Bart DiNardo told us about the summer of '88 in Larchmont
and Mamaroneck, and the increasing problem of underage drink-
ing in our community, and the importance of parents ' involve-
ment in addressing this problem. On the positive side, 75 kids
attended the summer baseball game outing, bicycle safety programs
and registration are continuing, a Halloween safety program
and party and a March 10 Ice Skating party are being planned.
The Executive Board of MHS, Joey Faust, Wendy Call, Joe Paldino,
John Schnapp and Dan Schwager, joined us to introduce themselves
and were helpful in sharing with us the existence of underage
drinking/drug abuse in our community. The high school offers
a Drug & Alcohol Awareness Program coordinated by Anne Deware,
and Kids Too, a peer leader program.
YES filled 70% of the jobs on file during the past summer,
reported Nancy Teply.
Ellen Fentas said that the Larchmont Library is in the process

of being automated, and now has a handicapped ramp entrance.
Caroline Silverstone told us that the Town of Mamaroneck and
the Community Counseling Center are working on the celebra-
tion of the Year of the Family 1989 and are looking for a
part-time paid director.
Anne Martin said Oasis will have a reorganization meeting on
October 11. Tena Kavanaugh will be assisting Benita Marks
as adult advisors. They are considering a new name. Dan
Schwager suggested a new location, and waiting 2-3 years to
begin again with a new group of students.
People Meeting People will have their Fall Luncheon meeting
on Thursday, October 20, 12-1: 30, at Larchmont Avenue Church,
which will serve as a CFY meeting as well. The subject will
be Adult Children of Alcoholics .
Judy Call said that Youth Month is in November and she hopes
to work with PTA representatives in forming a committee to
plan some kind of youth recognition. She also said that info r-
mation about local youth organizations will be available at
the MHS Ski & Skate sale on November 5.
Lee Korchin announced a forum meeting to discuss the homeless
on Tuesday, November 1, 7: 30, at Town Center, and she said that
Jackie Plumez, from St. John 's Church, has asked for our help
in planning a program called "Teenagers -- Helping Them to
Avoid Alcohol & Drugs " in March or April.
Ruth Santos asked if we should distribute the Safe Homes pham-
phlet. Bill Reilly suggested continuing distribution at Hom-
mocks but not at the high school.
Susan Amlicke informed us about a research project called
Project Child, being considered by our community, where mildly
handicapped children live with host families for a short time.
Judy Zern reported that CFY 's total balance is $1154. 91, of
which $778. 29 is SAFE Ride's and $376. 62 is CFY.
The focus of the next meeting will be on problems that careta-
kers face in caring for the elderly and sick.
We accept the resignation of Brigie Dickinson, who is moving to
Prescott, AZ, and thank her for her involvement in past years
and wish her much future happiness.
