The following Commissioners representing the Town of Mamaroneck, the Village of Larchmont and the Village of Mamaroneck were present: Lee Bloom Julia Brown Sheila Crain Glenna Gray Judie Martin Irene McConnell Mary McDonald Cora Rust Ian Spier Plans for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration were discussed. The program will be held on Wednesday, January 13, at the Einelin Theatre. Irene McDonnell will make the necessary arrangements. Refreshments will be available at 7:30 PM and the program will start at 8:00 PM. The theme of the program was finalized: For Whom Is The American Dream? It was decided to have a keynote speaker and a panel of three, consisting of international people from the area: Latin Americans, Native Americans, Asians, European Americans or black and white South Africans. The speakers would discuss how the American dream affected people in other countries....how they were influenced by Martin Luther King, Jr. Emphasis might be put on the Bill of Rights as well as the Declaration of Independence. Suggested participants for the program were Cornell West a Princeton philosopher; Michael Myers of New York Civil Rights Committee, Dr. Forbes of Riverside Church. Irene McConnell, Julia Brown and Cora Rust are on the committee to contact panelists. The Straight Gate Church Choir will be asked to participate and student participation was discussed which may be a problem due to the Job Action at the high school. Lee Bloom stated that nominations for people and organizations for the Martin Luther King, Jr. award should be submitted by December 10, which is Human Rights Day. Interviews will be conducted in December. M O -2- Glenna Gray will handle publicity and interview5on IMC/TV (Channels 35 and 36) . Ian Spier suggested that each person bring a can of food to the celebration for the projected food pantry. The next meeting will be held on November 23 and will begin promptly at 7:45 PM.
