WASSMAN WILL WORK ON THESE AND REVIEW AT THE NEXT MEETING! Present: E. Robert Wassman, Chairman Sue Ellen Commender Ronnie Wadler Pamela T. Washington Absent: Robert M. Immerman Anthony Spagnola Judith Myers, Liaison Also Present: Ronald A. Carpaneto, Director of Building CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairman Wassman at 8:05 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The first order of business is approval of Minutes of the last meeting, but that has to be deferred until we have the three parties present who were present at that time. A note to the secretary that there is one correction noted on page 5, second paragraph from the bottom, the name Ellen is used and not correctly. It's Sue Ellen and Bob. With that correction, we will defer the approval of the Minutes. Chairman Wassman read the application as follows: NORDONE AND SON'S, INC. - 2430 Boston Post Road - Block 503, Lot 421 - awning Mr. Wassman said he would like to advise the first applicant this evening that although we expect to have four members present, we have three here present now and three constitutes a quorum. In order for an application to prevail, it has to have unanimous decision when there's but three. If there were four here then you'd only have to have a majority. You have the right of withdrawal and deferring or you can proceed if you wish. Michael Santoliquido said I think we can proceed. I'm the owner and president of the contractor, San Signs and Awning. We're going to be the contractor. We're building the awning for Mr. Nardone, who is also present. Board of Architectural Review July 18, 2002 Page 2 Mr. Wassman asked Mr. Santoliquido to explain this. Mr. Santoliquido said I'm sure you're all familiar with SORRY, THERE'S A TERRIBLE NOISE ON TAPE! There are light boxes that exist on the building that we are going to be removing. We're just going to go ahead and install a wraparound canopy, aluminum and covered with some kind of fabric as you see there. A request was made by Ron to remove one of the letterings, the lettering of the north and south side. We did that. We had them located on the front. This is multifunctional, because the front is so ...inaudible on that. Everything in the office is ...inaudible, so we're not only using it as a ..,inaudible for the interior, but as well as advertising ...inaudible. Mr. Wassman said aside from the observation that I just made, the sample we have doesn't seem to match the application printout. Mr. Santoliquido said once again just to repeat for the record, there is no computer there that can go ahead and just snap it. That's why we provided the sample as well as what was off the books, because I believe they need to know the light and the color from the original choice. Mr. Wassman said this is black. Mr. Santoliquido said it's inaudible navy. After some discussion, Mr. Santoliquido said I thought it was going to be too dark on the building. SORRY, but tape is inaudible. The question reads the variation of color. I could give it to Ron after the meeting ...inaudible for the record. After further discussion, Mr. Wassman said there's no fluorescent lighting or anything like that? Mr. Santoliquido said there's no lighting whatsoever. It's just the fabric that you see. Board of Architectural Review July 18, 2002 Page 3 Mr. Wassman asked, are you saying that you wish to submit for approval a different fabric than as attached. Mr. Santoliquido said as you're concern was, you said to me it's black. That was our concern as well. Mr. Wassman said if you wish to submit a different color, fine. Then we can make sure we rule on it. Mr. Santoliquido said once again, if you feel it is easier staying in the blue family we'll leave it to you guys to ask an opinion. This is what I recommended, and I'll tell you why I recommended it. Do you see the tree that's in here that goes down the main road, the tree, then the water runs off the roof and onto the awning, the lines that are in it, this fabric doesn't show it. It has a lot of...inaudible. Mr. Wassman said it seems to be the black one or the navy one ...inaudible seems to be against it. 11) Mr. Santoliquido said no, the same side. The other fabric is right here. That's the valance you have in your hand. Mr. Wassman asked, is one more subject to stain than the other? Mr. Washington said I don't know. Does it say? Mr. Santoliquido said all of these fabrics will fade evenly. Umbrella warranty is for five years. It's up to the tenant to maintain it after five years, otherwise as a contractor we can't offer anything more than that. Ms. Washington said, you mean to replace it? Board of Architectural Review July 18, 2002 Page 4 Mr. Santoliquido said yes, if this needs to be recovered, it needs to be ...inaudible, but these here are so even here this is not like a vinyl fabric which is on the car wash and you can see how it grayed out. This umbrella is an acrylic and because ..inaudible. If you look at the other side of that blue fabric, it's white. It's wearing off the color, where if you wore this off what do you have underneath it? The same color. Mr. Wassman asked Mr. Santoliquido to identify this color. Mr. Santoliquido said right on the back here is the Mediterranean Blue Tweed. The sign on the fence umbrella, 4653. He said Ron for the record, it will be firewood(?) as well. Ms. Commender said I was wondering if it would be possible to see a bigger swatch of that, because our experience in the past has been ...inaudible, especially something like this? After further discussion, Ms. Commender said we've had problems with that. I'M SORRY, BUT IT'S VERY, VERY DIFFICULT TO MAKE OUT WHAT MS. COMMENDER IS SAYING! After further discussion, Mr. Santoliquido said once again this color .... there is not that much difference in the appearance. If you look at the photos here, this rendering absolutely depicts this color. We wouldn't have a problem submitting samples ...inaudible. Mr. Wassman said I think Sue Ellen's comment is she thinks that this blue material, even a larger sample, will what? Ms. Commender said we don't have the Blockbuster problem and IHOP. Ms. Washington said that's a different color. This is a lot more subtle. Board of Architectural Review July 18, 2002 Page 5 SORRY, CAN'T HEAR WHAT MS. COMMENDER IS SAYING! Mr. Santoliquido said I would be willing to do that, but here's the ...inaudible. I don't want to leave this meeting without an approval ...inaudible. I'd be willing to go ahead and send the samples, whether it is to Ron to resubmit them to you guys and that would be fine by me. I'd be willing to do that. My concern is over the acceptance of the color. We're willing to change and accept the approval of this. This would be brighter and it would hide more depth. That is my concern. SORRY, CAN'T HEAR WHAT'S BEING SAID! After further discussion, Mr. Wassman said let the record show that Pam Washington, a member of the BAR, has just joined the meeting and we'll bring her up-to-date. Mr. Wassman informed Ms. Washington that the applicant has accepted the provision that if there is approval tonight with only three here the decision would have to be unanimous. With your presence here now, the decision can be a majority decision. The applicant has requested to change the color of the awning from this navy blue to this mediterranean blue and Sue Ellen's comments are that she doesn't like approving it on a small sample, for whatever reasons. The applicant has agreed to submit a larger sample. I fail myself to appreciate how a larger sample is going to get this thing approved. Mr. Santoliquido said Mr. Nordone actually said that he would be willing to accept that blue that you have in front of you. Mr. Wassman said the navy blue. Mr. Santoliquido said ....inaudible.
