HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004_04_15 Board of Architectural Review Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW OF THE TOWN OF MAMARONECK APRIL 15, 2004, IN THE SENIOR CENTER, TOWN CENTER • 740 WEST BOSTON POST ROAD, MAMARONECK, NEW YORK Present: E. Robert Wassman, Chairman Sue Ellen Commender Tony Spagnola Andrew D. Fredman Ronnie Wadler Judith Myers, Liaison Absent: Edward Z. Jacobson Also Present: Ronald A. Carpaneto, Director of Building CALL TO ORDER Chairman Wassman called the meeting to order at 8:00 PM. • APPROVAL OF MINUTES Upon motion made and duly seconded the minutes of March 25, 2004 meeting were unanimously approved. Chairman Wassman read the applications as follows: WEBSTER BANK/Melron - 1265 Boston Post Road - Block 412, Lot 449 - sign (Adjourned March 25, 2004) Michael Ayles from Antinozzi Associates presented the revised rendering for Webster Bank. The Board discussed the application and had the following comments, concerns and recommendations: 1. The soffit drawing showing the light bar and soffit light style was approved as submitted. 2. The Webster Bank monument sign was approved with the following changes: a) The Webster Bank monument sign is to be reduced in height to 5 feet (to match the height of the Duane Reade monument sign). b) The lower color bank of the monument sign is to be the same color gray as the metal roof. • On motion made and seconded, the following resolution was ADOPTED: WHEREAS, Webster Bank/Melron has submitted an application to the Building Inspector, together with plans for signs; and Board of Architectural Review • April 15, 2004 Page 2 • WHEREAS, the Building Inspector has declined to issue such permit on the grounds that the review by the Board of Architectural Review is required; and WHEREAS, Webster Ban/Melron submitted an application for approval to the Board; and WHEREAS, this Board has examined the plans, inspected the site, reviewed the application and has heard all persons interested in this application. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the subject application be and the same is GRANTED as amended. DUANE READE/Melron - 1245 Boston Post Road - Block 412, Lot 449 - façade and sign (Adjourned March 25, 2004) Mark Mustacato of RMG Associates presented revised the renditions of the Duane • Reade Building. The Board had the following comments and concerns regarding the signage and the building. 1. The Board approved the following plans dated 4-7-04 A-1, A-2, S-1, S-2 with the following changes: a) The Duane Reade signage on the front of the building is to be reduced by approximately 10% (the lettering is to be reduce from 32 inches to 30 inches in height and therefore the length of the sign will be reduced accordingly). This will align the sign with the awning below. The light bar above is not to extend beyond the limits of the sign. b) The lettering of the word pharmacy on the monument sign is to be the roman style print similar to that of the wall sign lettering. The Board approved the landscaping plan A-2 dated 4-7-04 with the following changes: 1. A third aristocrat pear is to be added to the planting bed in front of the main parking lot. 2. The planting in the planting beds in the area of the monument sign are to be planted with junipers as close to the signs as possible. 3. The dumpster fencing is to be as opaque as possible. • On motion made and seconded, the following resolution was ADOPTED: Board of Architectural Review April 15, 2004 Page 3 • WHEREAS, Duane Reade/Melron has submitted an application to the Building Inspector, together with plans for site facade and signs; and WHEREAS, the Building Inspector has declined to issue such permit on the grounds that the review by the Board of Architectural Review is required; and WHEREAS, Duane Reade/Melron submitted an application for approval to the Board; and WHEREAS, this Board has examined the plans, inspected the site, reviewed the application and has heard all persons interested in this application. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the subject application be and the same is GRANTED as amended. NEW BUSINESS - No new business at this time. NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the BAR will be held on May 20, 2004.
