HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005_05_19 Board of Architectural Review Minutes 1 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW OF THE TOWN OF MAMARONECK • MAY 19, 2005, IN THE SENIOR CENTER, TOWN CENTER 740 WEST BOSTON POST ROAD, MAMARONECK, NEW YORK Present: Andrew D. Carpaneto, Director of Building CALL TO ORDER Mr. Fredman, acting Chairman, called the meeting to order at 8:02 PM. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of February 17, 2005 and March 17, 2005 meetings were not approved at this time. All members were not present to vote. • Chairman Wassman read the applications as follows: MILDRED & PHILIP RIGANO-3 Washington Square,Apt. 3G Block 133, Lot 449-site plan Mrs. Rigano, apartment owner, approached the Board and explained the application. After a discussion regarding color, railings and the amount of tempered glass the Board made the following comments and recommendations. 1. The Board members present requested that the chairman contact the building owner to see if there was a standard that the owner would like to carry forward with future applications regarding the look of the terraces. 2. The Board approved the application as submitted On a motion made and seconded, the following resolution was ADOPTED: WHEREAS, Mildred and Philip Rigano have submitted an application to the Director of Building,together with plans for a site plan; and WHEREAS, the Director of Building has declined to issue such permit on the grounds that the review by the Board of Architectural Review is required; and WHEREAS, Mildred and Philip Rigano submitted an application for approval to the • Board; and WHEREAS, this Board has examined the plans, inspected the site, reviewed the application and has heard all persons interested in this application; and Board of Architectural Review May 19, 2005 Page 2 • NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the subject application be and the same is GRANTED, subject to the following conditions: The Board members present requested that the chairman contact the building owner to see if there was a standard that the owner would like to carry forward with future applications regarding the look of the terraces. Mr. Fredman read the next application: CUSTOM CAR WORKS, LTD-630-636 Fifth Avenue Block 132, Lot 78—sign and facade(adjourned 3/17/05) Mr. Kumar, for Metropolitan Engineering, approached the Board and explained the application. Mr. Kumar stated that the property owner has made revisions since the last plan and that only work that was to be done was the following: 1. Paint the exterior of Mr Hazim's space. 2. Keep bathroom window, smooth and paint wall 3. Install railings on the handicap ramp. The Board, after some discussion, made the following comments and recommendations: • 1. The bath room window should be removed and the wall smoothed out and painted. 2. Remove coins, this was okay when the building was to be refinished with stucco. 3. The handicap rail should be painted gray to match garage doors. 4. The aluminum capping around the windows should be white. Glen Hazim, owner of Custom Car Works, approached the Board and explained the sign application. He stated that the sign would have a dark blue background with a lighter blue color for the lettering. It will be paned on an aluminum backer. The Board after some discussion had the following comments and recommendations. 1. No phone numbers on the sign. 2. Lights should be added under the soffit to light up the sign and the walkway. The Board approved the sign as submitted with the recommended changes and lighting additions. On a motion made and seconded, the following resolution was ADOPTED: WHEREAS, Custom Car Works, LTD has submitted an application to the Director of Building, together with plans for signage; and WHEREAS,the Director of Building has declined to issue such permit on the grounds that the review by the Board of Architectural Review is required; and • WHEREAS, Custom Car Works, LTD submitted an application for approval to the Board; and Board of Architectural Review May 19, 2005 Page 3 • WHEREAS, this Board has examined the plans, inspected the site, reviewed the application and has heard all persons interested in this application; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the subject application be and the same is GRANTED, subject to the following conditions: 1. No phone numbers on the sign. 2. Lights should be added under the soffit to light up the sign and the walkway. NEW BUSINESS Mr. Carpaneto is to look into the nonconforming pole sign. Board Members agreed to have Chairman write memo to Town Board regarding interior signage. Mr. Carpaneto will look into mullions at Duane Reade and "C" on directional signs at Commerce Bank NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the BAR will be held on June 21,2005. • ADJOURNMENT Upon a motion duly made and seconded, the meeting was unanimously adjourned.
