SPECIAL MEETING OF THE TOWN BOARD
TOWN OF MAMARONECK, NEW YORK
HELD FEBRUARY 24., 1943
At the 'Town Offices, 158 West, Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, N. Y.
The meeting was called to order by Acting Chairman Edward C.
Griffin at 8 P. M. Eastern War Time.
Present: Acting Chairman Edward C. Griffin
Councilmen Edward A. Keeler and
Burton C. Meighan, Jr.
Absent: Supervisor Owen A. Mandeville
The presence was also noted of Town. Clerk Robert D. Payne,
Town Attorney John L. Delius and Assessor James M. Smith.
Acting Chairman Griffin announced that the meeting was called
to prepare an appropriate resolution to express regret upon the loss
by death of Councilman George V. Bates. He stated that he was sorry
that because of a business trip which started before the death of Mr.
Bates Supervisor Mandeville could not be present.
The members of the Board proceeded to draft the resolution.
Councilman Keeler offered and Councilman Heighan seconded the
following:
Resolved, that the members of the Town Board of Mamaro-
neck wish to record this expresson of their profound
sorrow at the death of their former associate, Mr. George
V. Bates, who departed this life on February 18, 1943 .
His ability which was always at the service of others,
his untiring energy and his unswerving sense of honor
have greatly endeared him to us.
His clear judgment and wise counsel, together with his
upright character, commanded and held the unqualified
respect of all those associated with him, making his
loss deeply felt and leaving a high standard for all
who came in contact with him.
A good citizen, a considerate associate, and a genial,
whole-sculed Christian gentleman has gonve from among us.
The memory of his kindly nature and high character will
ever live in the hearts of his friends .
And be it further
Resolved that we, the 'Town Board, extend to his family
our heart-felt sympathy in their bereavement and that
a copy of this resolution be sent to them and also be
spread upon the official records of the Town.
The resolution was approved by the members of the Board
standing for a moment in silence . '
The Town Clerk was authorized to order the resolutions en-
grossed at an estimated cost of $40.00.
At 8:25 P. M, the meeting adjourned in memory of former
Councilman George V. Bates .
