HomeMy WebLinkAbout1954_01_30 Town Board Minutes MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE TOWN BOARD OF TwE TOWN OF iYAMlRO- NECK, HELD JAAb ARY 303 1954, IN THE TOWN OFFICE AT 155 WEST BOSTON POST ROAD, MkKARONECK, N. Y. , AT 10: 30 A. M. PRESENT: Councilmen McKeever, Brush, Waterman and Kane ABSENT: Supervisor Mandeville Presence was also noted of Mr. Delius, Town Attorney, Mr. Gronberg, Town Clerk, and Mr. Finson, Town Accountant. The Clerk presented and read a letter, dated January 29, 1954, re- ceived from Mr. Frank X. O 'Donnell, Jr. , Secretary of the Commuters' Fact Finding Committee, together with a resolution adopted by that Committee at a meeting held January 27, 1954, in which the Committee recommended the following: (i) The appointment of a. County Committee; (2) Offer of service to County Committee by Local Committee; (3) Utilization by County of services of committees of various com- munities; (4) Use of every effort by Mamaroneck Town: Board to have applica- tion brought before the Public Service Commission. The Town Clerk also ;presented and read a complete report, dated Janu- ary 255 1954, from the Commuters' Fact Finding Committee. Mr. Delius presented and reviewed the petition of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad Company. Mr. Delius also reported that a conference on this matter will be held in New York on February 3, 1954, and that Benjamin Feinberg, Chairman of the Public Service Commission of the State of New York, had autho- rized the necessary legal action in an effort to have this applica- tion heard before the Public Service Commission instead of the Inter- State Commerce Commission. I Following lengthy discussion and on motion by councilman lane, seconded by Councilman Brush, it was unanimously i RESOLVED that this Board acknowledges with thanks and appreciation, the excellent work of the Commuters' Fact Finding Committee appointed by the Supervisor and., in accordance with its recommendation, urges that the Public Service Commission and the Attorney General of the State take all necessary action to protect the interests of the commuters of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad in connection with the question of the jurisdiction of the Interstate Commerce Commis- sion over the present fare increase application, and further urges the County Executive to take all neces- sary action to insure a unified representation for the commuters served by the New Haven Railroad. FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town Attorney is authorized to attend and appear at all hearings, meetings and con- ferences on this matter, on behalf of the 'Town of Mamaroneck. FUR'TLER RESOLVED tnat the Clerk is hereby instructed to send a copy of this resolution to the Public Service Commission, the Attorney General of the State of New York, the County Executive of Westchester County, the Chairman of the Commuters' Fact Finding Commission, and Mayor Stanley W. Church of New Rochelle. _ X19 Mr. Brusn called attention to the fact that there was an account in the Daily Times of January 29, 1954, of a meeting held in Port Ches- ter, called by Mayor Anthony Posiilipo, in connection with the strike of the County Transportation Company (Stamford-E ew Rochelle line) . Inasmuch as the Town received no notice of this meeting, it was, upon motion made by Councilman Brush, seconded by Councilman Waterman, unanimously RESOLVED that the 'Town Attorney be and he hereby is instructed to ascertain the facts concerning this meeting, by whom it was called, and the names of persons attending it. FURThER RESOLVED that the Mayor of Port Chester be requested to give notice in the future of any meetings in connection with this matter. FURTaER RESOLVED that the Tow. Attorney is authorized to attend at any further meetings in connection with this matter. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 11: 51 A. M. to meet again on February 10, 1954.
