Local Law No. 6 - 2011
This local law shall be known as the “Stop Sign on Forest Avenue” Law.
BE IT ENACTED by the Town Board of the Town of Mamaroneck
Section 1 – Purpose:
Forest Avenue has become a popular shortcut between Weaver Street and Rockland
Avenue. The Police Department has observed the number of vehicles and the speed of traffic
traveling on Forest Avenue on several occasions. The increased traffic, coupled with an almost 90
degree bend on Forest Avenue, calls out for greater control over traffic. To assure safety, the Town
Board finds it appropriate to install a stop sign in one location on Forest Avenue. This local law
does just that.
Section 2 – Regulation of Traffic on Forest Avenue:
Vehicles traveling south on Forest Avenue shall be required to come to a full stop on Forest
Avenue at the point south of Rockland Avenue where Forest Avenue changes direction by
approximately 90 degrees.
Section 3 – Sign(s) to be Erected and Painting to be Done:
An appropriate sign or signs shall be erected on and/or above, and/or striping shall be
painted on the surface of Forest Avenue indicating where a full stop is required by this law.
Section 4 – Severability:
Should any provision of this Local Law be declared invalid or unconstitutional by any court
of competent jurisdiction, such declaration of unconstitutionality or invalidity shall not affect any
other provisions of this Local Law, which may be implemented without the invalid or
unconstitutional provisions.
Section 5 – Effective Date:
This Local Law shall become effective upon filing with the Secretary of State.
